Default Palio Stile 1.6 1800 KM Review

hi All,
I picked up my FIAT Palio Stile 1.6 from Pandit Auto on 30th May 2008.
The buying experience at Pandit was really nice. The sales guy knew a lot more about the Palio far exceeeding my expectations.

About Palio :
It's a fantastic piece of engineering. It has everthing to make you feel you are driving a big car. The best and hottest hatch.

Just an example of the detailing that has gone in construction of the palio
The wiper fluid tank inlet has a filter at the inlet to prevent any unwanted solid particles getting in the tank which may cause mal functioning of the spray pump.

I have done around 1800 KM and its been sheer pleasure. the roar of the engine above 2.5 rpm makes u feel on top of the world.

Its pure unadulterated fun to let the engine roar and speed past all those tin boxes.
The FE is in range of 11.5 to 12.8 with almost 70% AC on. though FE was never a consideration while buying this beast.

First service : My overall experience with the first servicing at Pandit is good. The guys know what they are doing

will keep posting updates

Nice to see a good buying experience of Fiat car. I hope they mangae to improve all the dealers as many miss the great car because of bad dealers.

The Fuel Efficiency is in city driving conditions or highway drivnig ?

Hey..Nice to see your review.

Actually I was bit afraid to go with Pandit. So gone ahead and bought 1.6 from B U Bhandari.

Good to know that servicing at Pandit is also good. I might think og giving my 1.6 there for second service.

Cheers

Hmm, Looks like the Palio 1.6 is doing pretty decently for itself in 2008. Thats pretty impressive for a ' fuel guzzling', 'flop' car launched way back in 2001. Its an unbeatable proposition no doubt. Congratulations and rev up that sweet motor, but only after proper running in. For the moment, a max of 3K rpm should be good.

FE is in mostly city driving. Though i drive to office using the highway the highway is equally jammed as the city during peak hours.
also have not crossed 3K rpm as of now.

Congrats on the Palio. I have a Palio 1.6 Stile bought in Oct 2007. I read somewhere that the run in period is between 7000 to 9000 kms and that the engine gets real quite around that time.
Keep the revs below 2.5 till then.

My Palio used to give a nice roar at 2K rpm earlier and I guess after the run-in it has become quieter at this low rev and the roar is now audible only above 2.5K rpm ...

Other Palio 1.6 users - did you get the same experience ?

Yep you are right, the engine starts to roar at 2K RPM.

Man, run in for 7000 kms !! It will be damn difficult to keep down revvs for so long !

I had thought its just 1000 km run-in. Please confirm

the manual says the run in is 1000kms. No, I did not mean I kept the revs down until 7000 kms . My wrong terminology. What i meant to say, based on my observance is that the engine has become smoother and quieter than before after approx 7000 kms. Don't know why.

Hey Pankaj, just go easy on the pedal for 2k kms or so. And then increase the RPM gradually. The key during the run in is to give the engine parts time to mate well. After 2k kms, expose engine to a range of RPMs. It will be butter smooth by second service. All good things come to the patient. It is tough, I know from personal experience, but it will pay richly. Enjoy the hatch. Best around

Congrats on you new car. That is a real nice performance hatch.

1800 k.m. is plenty for run in. Just put the pedal to the floor and have fun. That engine sounds really nice at 6500 rpm. It is designed to rev to very high rpm due to its large bore and short stroke. You can run it at redline all day and do absolutely no damage.

Regards,

Default 7500 KM Second service update

Got my palio stile 1.6's IInd servicing done at pandit.
overall the service was really good. i must say Chinmay at pandit (tilak road) is doing a great job.

My palio feels just like new after the servicing.

Following things done.
1. Engine oil change
2. Bardahl engine tuneup and flush.
3. Replaced the boot lock under warranty.
4. Oil filter change.

I must say there is a considerable improvement in the A.S.S for fiat.

i am enjoying every drive in the hot hatch.
every drive reaffirms my decision of buying the hot hatch.

@MOD: please change the title to 7500 KM Second service update

Fiat engines are said to improve with age. this is why many believe that the proper run-in for Fiats is around 7000 kms, after which they open up and there's no looking back.

Default 16K 3rd service update

@mod : please change to long term review.

Clocked 16k now and every km driven has brought more smiles than before.

3rd service update (done @ 15K).
1. Oil Changed.
2. All Filters changed.

Servicing done @ Pandit. Overall experience fantastic.

All small niggles taken care of and the cars like new drive.
The engine note above 4K rpm is addictive and fun.
the engine note is really addictive when pushed above 6K in 2nd gear. the engine roars to the fullest

Service charges Rs. 1339 only.......

Average has been around 11-12 km/l with 70-80% AC.
Driving is mostly in city. and never light footed

Overall extremely happy with the car. and also happy to see a lot more fiat on road now.
every fiat passing by makes you feel happy
