Is that so? I missed out that one. I recollect that he has been complaining about the needle flickering. However I cannot recall engine noise also when he mentioned "surge".

If that is really so, my bad and I apologise.

On my vehicle the flicker is much less pronounced and hearing the engine sound difference is difficult.

Something is causing an irregular burning.. or uneven fuel injection.. typical if you have injector tips (one/two of them) dirty... or for other reasons.

Its something to do with engine breathing (intake which can include EGR) or fueling, nothing to do with rpm meter, engine oil viscosity and diesel temperatures.

Engine breathing mostly since there is a direct correlation to the air temperature, so mostly EGR as suggested by others.

To rule this out,the easiest option for tsk is to run it through SystemD, next option would be to look at the mechanicals etc.

Its a step by step rule-out A B C process, so tanveer let us know once you have tried the basic, i.e. System D.

dadu, I don't think system D needs to be tried. The reason is this.
When I reported this problem, the service center cleaned the injectors and also checked the diesel filters.
there was no problem of gumming etc.,
I think system D does the same, clean injectors.
Moreover this problem is not new.
this is before I started seeing the service light and they had to change HP lines etc., to make this problem go away.
The only thing which I can think of is the EGR. Somebody informed me that sometimes EGR may have a problem such that it does not completely work when its cold. This can cause surging.
At the next service which is coming up soon, they are going to look at EGR.

Erratic and un-even idling, surging, ‘pinking’ are known symptoms of injector problems, primarily due to heat soak. Thats the reason I am trying to sell you System D as a solution.

Although its your decision and option, it does not cause any adverse affect.

PS: I have seen the way they clean injectors and trust me the additives are more effective (saying this by experience).

@TSK, System-D will cost you Rs. 250/-a bottle . Far cheaper option in terms of time & money than going to the TASS.

The Safari doesn't like it ? then give the Indica a treat. She'll love you for it !

33500 kilometers. No System D or anything. Used it once, maybe for 2-3 tank fills, thats all.

I will try it again if someone can swear it will help give better FE. My engine is already smooth and hence doubt if an additives can help more.

Do you use premium diesel all the way?

No time for trips. All I do is drive to Cochin/Shertalla/Kottayam once or twice a month and daily drive to office.

1. On cold start the rpm surges between 800-1100. TASC guys could not find anything wrong on the analyzer. Guess this one is a mystery

The RPM surging was present in my dads Octavia as well ranging from 800-1200, rectified after routine service & replacement of the air mass sensor costing around 18000/- with labor & taxes included!!

PS: Rs 18000 only for the air mass sensor.
