Hi all,

Finally after a lot of reading, browsing, test driving, financial calculations...I bought a used Hyundai Tucson.

All throughout the last one week or so (the most crucial part of this process), I was trying hard to post a new thread on T-BHP to get some advice, but could not (permission problem with my login!). Now that the deal is done, I just tried to see if I can create a new thread...and here I am!

T-BHP was not there when I needed the most, but then that's life:).

I wanted to know how much loan should I take, I wanted to know how to ensure that I will get a legally clean car, I wanted to know how I should ensure that I get a confirmed delivery after all the payment is made, I wanted to know what should I inspect in the car to confirm it's in good health....but god had another plan - he probably wanted me to try it all out on my own and then login here with a story to tell...so be it.

Well, it's a June 2005 model with 60,000KM on the odo.
I was out in the used car market here in Pune evaluating my options:
I test drove the GV (the current model - auto, manual), the Safari (2.0 and 2.2), the CR-V (old shape, 2.4L M/T), the Pajero, the Gypsy and 3 Tucsons...the last Tucson felt nice and smooth to drive and was in my (stretched) budget so finalized the deal.

Will post the details soon...

We are going to Rishikesh for white water rafting on 19'th Dec and wanted a decent offroader to drive all the way...hence wanted to get an SUV before 15'th. Went to the same camp last year and was absolutely thrilled by the rafting experience...however the journey till Rishikesh was boring...so this year we decided to fix that problem!

I am now in the process of getting the car transferred in my name and getting it serviced properly.

Should I get the locks and keys changed so that nobody from the past has access to the car? Anything else I should worry about?

Thanks,
Anand

Congrats...I can just imagine you grinning from ear to ear

Congrats. That is ONE MEAN Beast

Thanks Sudev and phamilyman.

I am enjoying the torque of the CRDi motor...
Just came back from a ride on the GQ section leading to the expressway.

Pulls nicely till 120/130 and stops in a straight line. What else can I expect.
If I am crusing at 80 in 5'th and floor the accelrator, does not really fly but picks up pace very gradually (a little slower than my NHC), but there is enough torque in 3rd and 4th. In fact 2nd gives me a great adrenaline rush...

Checked the stability - it's pulling to left. Must be a wheel alignment issue.

I am going to get he alignment done, all filters (air, oil and diesel) changed + oil replaced.

Anything else to check?

The previous owner is not giving me the owner manual, also only one key handed over to me :-( I am seriously thinking of getting a new lock set. What do you guys suggest?

Hey dude. Congrats for the purchase.
I dont think there is a need for a new lock set.
Check for all the other papers.

Get the tyres inspected for damage too.
Check with Petes if they have a Pete's box for Tucson. Will give you better power.

Awaiting the pics.
Cheers.

I do not how far this is correct but I was told by a owner of a Tuscon that after a long speed drive on a highway not to shut off the engine immediately but to let it idle for a minute or so ...something to do with turbo spin down and excess oil seeping in to inlet manifold resulting in a "cough" of smoke at the next start.

You could ask Hyundai for a copy of owners manual - normally is available at a charge.

One key only is tricky. Could be genuine or ... are you fitting any extra security equipment like Gear lock? Then it should be safe.

Hey Anand,

Do you mind sharing the amount you paid for the Tuscon?

Regards,
Jaspreet Singh

You didnt tell us how much you paid. Congrats though, great car. Handles well, goes like stink and stops well. also has Decent GC and 4WD. Great all rounder.
Pete's box for the Tucson is likely to be going cheap these days.

Any idea why is that?
I looked up Peter's website, and it's showing @31200!
That's a little too much for me right now.

Anyone using this box on Tucson? Please let me know the feedback.

BTW, I paid @8.5 for the Tucson.

Congrats for the Tucson:)

Pics please.

yeah, pics please - lovely price too.

The Tucson has been the terror on the NH1 - it just flies.

Scared the **** out of me as a biker even when doing 100ish and slipping among 4 wheelers!

The tucson is out of production now(i think) I remember Peter telling me that the prices have dropped for the Accent CRDi box after that car went out of production. Call the number on the website, you might get a different price.

Congrats on the Tucson! Its a heck of a competent soft-roader and my love for it is well-known on the forum. Cracker of a diesel, balanced ride & handling and decent space.....if it weren't for the badge and Hyundai's lack of marketing support, the Tucson would have given the CRV a good fight.

Out of concern, what permission-related issues did you face with your account? I can confirm that no changes have been made to your membership in the last week. And if you can post now, I don't see why this wasn't the case a week earlier. Please PM me. Thanks.

congrats anandpadhye for you new beast. It indeed is one hell of a softroader and has looks to match it. Btw get the car thoroughly serviced before taking it for a long drive and also get the wheel alignment and balancing done.
Petes is absolutely necessary for this beast as there's so much of weight to pull and the power generated by the engine is same as that of an elantra which is significantly lighter then tucson. So additional bhp and torque would do wonders for this beast.
also could you please mention the price.
