I still haven't got it done completely yet. Just got the dent undone with dry denting for Rs. 300 from Karol Bagh. They are damn good in it. Now only the scratches remain. Will get a quote from Sri Durga Auto for paint job and a new bumper on Friday.

Guys, firstly A very happy belated Holi to all the TBHPians!!

Sorry for not updating the first service details despite promising. Was busy doing another 1k kms after the service. Here goes the update:

The Xylo completed 5k kms on Friday and it was time for the first service so took her to Sri Durga Automobiles on Saturday morning. Though had planned to reach before 9AM, got late and reached by 9:50. There was a huge rush later but luckily mine was the 13th Vehicle and the only Xylo among the Scorps. Infact mine was the first Xylo coming for service with them. They were a bit surprised when I told them it was time for the first service.

I had already decided to give them a long list of problems and added every possible noise/vibration/problem to the list. So the final tally came out to some 11 of them, namely:

1. Driver Door Rattle
2. Rear Right puddle light not working.
3. Vibration like noise from the engine bay while accelerating.
4. A muted grine from the DDAS.
5. Front suspension clicking noise while turning from standstill.
6. Rear blower does not turn on sometimes.
7. Dash glove box light does not work properly sometimes.
8. Gear Lever Vibration.
9. Brake Pedal Adjustment check.
10. Head light focus check.
11. Instrument cluster light brightness issue.

As I reached there, the Service Advisers were already busy filling job sheets for the scorps and a few Logans ahead of me. Finally, my turn came and a senior Service adviser was called in as he was the only one who had some idea about the Xylo. I started with my list and while on the TD, he was able to answer about almost all of my problems and promised they will be history. In fact, asa I mentioned the vibration sound from the engine bay, he nodded as if he already knew about it. I was a bit surprised (more on this later in the report).

We reached back and was told I cannot be with the vehicle inside the workshop. Despite my repeated requests, they told me its not in there policy. However, after I took the matter to the manager, I was allowed to go in with the adviser for some time. Then was escorted to the Customer lounge from where I could have a birds eye view of the vehicle being serviced. Its another story that I could not sit there for more then 10 mins and managed to sneak in and out every now and then.

Now the wait started. Being a Saturday, it was a huge rush at the workshop so was told that the work will start in a while. However, even after around 3 hours being there (a short walk to nearby Haldiram included), I could see no one had even touched the car. I got real annoyed and called the service adviser. He told me that being a new car, they cannot assign just any engineer for my car so I have to wait. I told them, all I know is that I want my car back by 5:30 and that too all issues sorted. Was assured it will be done.

A long stroll around the showroom and a detailed check and TD on the new Scorpio (will post in seperate thread) later, was relieved to see work being started on my car. However, when I went inside, was surprised to see the intercooler and some turbo stuff out of the engine bay. The service engineer told me that a EGR (Exhaust Gas Recycler) pipe was blocked so they are changing it. Could see it was taking him hell lot of time to figuring out how to do it and that too with the help of some xeroxed manual. I went out to ask the senior engineer but could not find him. It was 2:30pm and was told that the filters and the Oil have been changed and its only small things left so will get the vehicle on time.

Later, after the EGR thing done, again could not see much work being done there. This really annoyed me to the extent to raise my voice. I was sure they cannot meet the 5:30 dead line. All this while, was assured and the work resumed in the form of the car being put on washing line. After the washing thing done, I went inside and no one was working on it. The washing too was not done properly and the other issues like the lights were not even touched. I went straight to the senior manager and brought him with me. Got the advisor a nice scolding (real or not, no idea) but that kick (re)started the work. Soon all the niggles were taken care of and was told that the EGR thing was a known problem and all the xylos will be recalled sooner or later for that. Also the Gear lever vibration is one thing that they will soon have a solution as they are working on it.

I wondered, if I have bought a car or am a part of an experiment??

Finally, after all that hellabo, I got the car at 7:30pm. The Final list stood like this:

1. Driver Door Rattle (not solved. No TD was done. Was told to bring the car back as it was too late)
2. Rear Right puddle light not working.(done)
3. Vibration like noise from the engine bay while accelerating. (Done. The EGR blockage was causing this. This had changed the sound of the engine too and now I can hear the turbo whistle prominently. Feels adictive and the engine response is better in turbo zone now. No affect on the FE however.)
4. A muted grine from the DDAS. (Done. Was a dashboard vibration which seems to be subsided)
5. Front suspension clicking noise while turning from standstill.(done. some adjustment did it)
6. Rear blower does not turn on sometimes. (PNA as written on the job card. It means the control switch not available and I will be called as and when it has arrived).
7. Dash glove box light does not work properly sometimes.(was done at that time but the problem has resurfaced after a thousand Km drive.)
8. Gear Lever Vibration. (the vehicle will be recalled for this soon.)
9. Brake Pedal Adjustment check. (checked)
10. Head light focus check.(done)
11. Instrument cluster light brightness issue.(no resolution available for this. My complaint has been forwarded to Mahindra and I will be contacted directly.)

I was also promised a free good wash as I was not happy with that.

All in all, the experince can be termed as 'not so good'. But I do not know whom to blame. It wasnt the service center as Mahindra probably has not trained them for the Xylo. I have already written to them regarding this. Lets see what they have to say.

Vehicle has become lighter to drive and the engine seems more responsive. Will be going again tomorrow for problem 1,6 and 7 and a thorough wash.

Will update again.

Cheers!

Again a very honest and detailed first service report.

Kudos to you for getting into the service area, Otherwise most of your problems would have been left as it is.

Sad to know that M&M did not give proper training to service personnel, maybe they thought that they will get trained on the job which is sad for any customer.

It is too bad to know that all new customers had to bear with the experiments. Will this happen with all manufacturers or just indian manufacturers?

Hope and pray that M&M rectify these problems soon and realize that A.S.S is something which makes the difference between a popular vehicle and an unpopular one.

Vinay, your reports are so elaborate that I am feeling as if I am owning a xylo.

Thanks Vinay for all the trouble taken to post your experiences. It helps tremendously for one to know the good and the bad of the Xylo and therefore to make an informed choice. This is a great thread, and your contribution so far is outstanding. Please continue enlightening us.

Been following this thread. Very honest report. Just 2 things

1. Xylo Bridgestone 275/70 R15s is default or you changed it? 275 is huge.
2. Try a Bolero on these terrain

Do keep us posted

All in all it was an experience to be had. I still feel that if they offer a 4WD in this vehicle, it will easly do stuff what the mHawk and the Safari 4WD cannot do. All because of the excellent off road dynamics this vehicle offers.

I will not compare it with the Innova here. Not on this terrain. Period.

To be continued.....

Coming next: Detailed pictorial

Typical of car manufacturers. They deal with the new model car customer like lab rats. I still remember getting Indica Turbo when it was first launched and when i went in for service the service mech. had no idea about the car. i had to wait for 2 days for the car to get delivered from the first service as they had to call Tata for every detail it seems.

vinay, very honest and detailed first service report, regarding the problems still with your xylo, seems companies doesnt train their staff with new vehicles for which they does take such long time to rectify the issues, hope mahindra would listen and bring down the problems, your xylo seems to be the test hand one to rectify things and learn for their service centre.Keep updating.CHEERS!!!

Oops!! Had thought of putting the billing details earlier but then forgot.

Here goes:

Oil Filter EK-6178: 138.66
Mahindra Supreme 15W40 Engine Oil 6.5 Ltrs: 1034.54
Vat 12.5% on Oil Filter 17.33
Vat 20% on Oil 206.91
Total 1097.44

Rest they also included the EGR Pipe, Air filter hose clip and Dip Stick Assembly which they changed under warranty. These were all part of the experiment.

Plus one complimentary thing they gave was the Registration number inscription on all glasses. They took my consent for it though.

Rocky, sorry about that, 275 was a typo which I have already corrected later in the thread. Its 235.

My uncle has a bolero and I drive it extensively in that terrain. I even have driven a loaded pickup but believe me, the Xylo feels different and more at home there.

Also guys, today I had to go for some office work to Bawal on NH8 near Behror. It was a 200 Km to and fro drive. The car felt much more peppier then ever. It felt just like my Viva crdi. I did'nt know the engine takes a thousand kms to open up after the first service. Also took her above 135 for the first time. I reached an indicated 161 and the eagle still had a lot of juice left in it. It was me who gave up after that and it did'nt take any effort for it to reach that speed.

The newfound turbo whistle is just amazing!

Cheers!

Thanks for the bill details. Not expensive. What is the regular oil change interval?

Etching of registration number in all glasses, good.

If they had an automatic in their line up, I would have plonked for one.

Next service is due at 15k and there after every 5k kms.

Also I just noticed I did a typo again. The total is 1397 instead of 1097.

Apologies!!

Cheers!
