Default re: Maruti Dzire ZDi - 115,000 kms & 5 yrs. Plans for cosmetic changes

The authorised workshops are anything but experts in denting & painting. And I am saying this after getting a SHODDY job done at supposedly the best maruti A.S.S. in Gurgaon.

Hence expertise is why I recommended a specialist.

Got the front windscreen changed at Milan Subway, Star Glass. Bought Pilkington glass. Costed Rs 3400. No additional fixing charges. The entire process took 25 minutes flat. From parking the car to driving out. Spectra (A.S.S.) would have charged Rs 4500 for glass and Rs 1500 odd for fixing and glue etc.

Next went to Shivam Autozone service centre in Kandivali. Enquired about body work and shock absorber change. Spoke to a dear friend and a fellow BHPian, Rajesh. He has guided me to Star Glass. He next guided me to Turbhe, Shetty motors for buying the shock absorbers and struts. And getting them fixed by a mechanic named Nizam.

Bought rear shock absorbers, rear springs, the rubber blocks to hold the springs, front strut and spring assembly for both wheels. It costed Rs 11,000. Maruti was quoting upwards of Rs 13500. Further bought System D, Castrol Magnetac 15W40 (3.5 litres) and a diesel treatment from makers of System D.

Got the shock absorbers and struts fitted. Took 2 hours to get it done. Costed Rs 1400, as against a quote of Rs 4000 by Maruti. Also bought K&N filter and cleaning kit. Total of Rs 6200.

The car feels higher. There is still a knocking sound from the front suspension. Will get it checked at Shivam. Today was dedicated to car care. Feeling good.

Gave my car yesterday at Shivam Autozone for front suspension noise. It was opened in my presence. The right lower arm was changed at 102000 km. The left lower arm was the culprit this time. They also greesed the steering set-up. Next they opened the EGR for cleaning. The seals seemed fine. So may be the intercooler or turbo are making the whistling sound. They are working on it today. I will be going post lunch to ollect the car. The remaining things, i.e. the IRVM change, high mount brake lamp change, and other such sundry stuff will be done last. Also contemplating putting the reversing sensors from MGA.

Good to see that you have munched on 115000 Kms without any major issues.
I would like to know about your timing belt, is it still on the stock or have you changed it?
Also, how about the clutch and turbo as well?

Answering even though it was intended to dushmish.

The swift/dzire VDI comes with a timing chain (not belt) that is said to have a life as long as the engine itself.

Thanks Eddy for your quick response.
So, I think it should be applicable for ZDI as well, right? Mine is a Dzire ZDI, April 2011.

Hey Arun and Eddy,

As Eddy said, the DDiS comes with a chain and not belt. The chain needs to be checked only if there is a significant drop in the mileage. I got my clutch changed at 75,000 km. It had not failed though. It was a little weak. The turbo is good as new. I get the EGR cleaned every 30,000 km.

Post the work this time I got a mileage of 19 kmpl. I will write the details of the work done and the costs tomorrow. The car is driving good as new.

Thanks Eddy and Dushmish for the information!

I got the EGR cleaned at 55K.
Any cleaning work for turbo? Or should be untouched?
ODO is @66K. So, anything else needs to be checked?

Also, any feedback on the below issue would be appreciated,
Shifting 2nd to 3rd happens with a thud sound. But this is very intermittent, may be it happens once in a week. And I have observed this since i bought this car, initially the SA told this will go away by 10K Kms. But now its around 66K on the ODO but this issue still exists. I didn't take this issue seriously since it is very intermittent and I was never able to replicate with my SA as well. The gear/clutch assembly has not been touched till date.

I got the EGR cleaned 2000 km ago. Also poured a can full of System-D one time cleaner. Have been using System-D post that with every refuel. Installed a K&N air filter. I used to get a mileage of 15 to 19 kmpl in city and on highway with AC on always. After the above changes, I am only getting 13 kmpl. Worries me. Not sure what could be wrong. The car has completed 5000 km since the last service.

Anything that needs attention? I will be visiting the serivce station tomorrow and leaving my car for service. Please advice.

I had a similar issue after one of the services. Turned out that the diesel filter was not fit properly and was leaking.

Given below is the list of things I got done in the car 8 weeks ago.

1. K&N filter - Rs 5500
2. K&N Filter cleaner - Rs 950
3. Front strut assembly - Rs 6500 (left and right both)
4. Rear shock absorber - Rs 3014 (left and right both)
5. Rear coil spring - Rs 1316 (left and right both)
6. Rear coil spring pad - Rs 270
7. System D Xtra - Rs 590

Rs 10,915 was spent at Shivam Autozone (MASS), for the following:

1. EGR cleaning
2. Steering greesing
3. Front left lower arm changing
4. Alternator belt tensioner replacement
5. Intercooler cleaning

This includes labour and parts.

MGA reversing sensors were also fitted.

1. Sensors - Rs 2569
2. Fitment charge - Rs 500

No body work was done. I shall be getting it done this time when I give the car, i.e. tomorrow.

I also intend to get the headlight cleaning done. Any suggestions? How is 3M?
AC vent cleaning is also on the agenda. Again by 3M. How good is it?

In the body work, the bumpers will have to be replaced. And a little bit of denting, painting and alignment of fenders, bonnet, and doors.

The newly replaced front windscreen got impacted by a flying stone. This one costed me Rs 3400 inclusive of fitting. The make is Pilkington.

Anything else that needs to be checked? Cleaned? Maintained? Please suggest. I am trying to invest in the car in such a way that it gets good as new and lasts me another 5 years. A long drive (4000 km) during Diwali vacations is on.

Gave the car for servicing and body work today. The following things will be done.
1. Front bumper and grill will be replaced. Both were damaged.
2. Bonnet is out of alignment. Shall be fixed.
3. Left fender was out of alignment. Shall be fixed.
4. Paint touch up in some hidden places where it has started to signs of rust.
5. ABS light glows intermittently. Shall be checked the nth time. Hopefully they will be able to diagnose the issue.
6. Low mileage will be addressed. Not sure why it is so low.
7. Both the headlights will be replaced. One had a broken clip. The glass covering had scratches and had turned dull.
8. The left auxillary light will be changed. It had a crack due to a flying stone.

Got two foam cushins made for the front seats. These are 50 density, 2 inch thickness cushins. To be kept on the seat. The seats' foam had gotten compressed over time (5 years). The new cushins add comfort and height to the ride. Interestingly the car seems smoother when I sit on the cushin and drive.

Found a newly opened 3M car care store on Link road just around the Marve turn. Any reports on it? Will try it for AC vent cleaning.

I've been facing the same issue for a month now. It looks to be either sensor issue - a loose connection or water. Please do update on the diagnosis and the solution.

News is that the body work is done. Got a call from the service advisor 2 hours ago. He said, the rear right side wheel bearing is noisy and needs to be changed. Will cost about 3000 rupees. And the water pump, used to recirculate the coolant from the radiator is also leaking. Will have to be changed. That is another 3500 rupees. They have not been able to identify the cause of faulty ABS light, the low mileage and the screeching sound during cold start. Work is on. Car is not being delivered today. Shall speak to them tomorrow morning again to get the status. Not having a good feeling.
