thanks rkg for the short-n-sweet report.
My vista is July 2009 QJD aura model. I am nearing to 5000kms marks. I was wondering about oil change and was planing to go through the manual. but your report makes it clear that engine oil is at 10000Kms mark.

Well about problems being faced is - Squeaking noise from right rear suspension when someone gets in or out of the vehicle. Will show that to TASC in the coming service. While AC is quite cool maybe its the climate in Pune which helps. Audio system is OK for me. I love the Pickup it displays when on express ways.

Hi all,
Today I gave my vehicle(Vista QJD - July09) for 2nd free servicing at Pandit Auto, Akurdi, Pune. Kms completed 5406 in 6 months. The problems faced were squeaking noise from rear springs - heard when someone gets in/out from rear seat of the vehicle. Front door hinges sqeaking some times (not always - I am surprised on this).

Also the service adviser while making a list of work to be done - by default added wheel alignment and balancing & was charging me Rs 700. I was surprised on this and questioned him that does TATA recommend this at 5000 kms interval. He said yes, TATA says that but not officially. I checked the user manual in front of him and showed him that it has to be done only after 20,000 kms. On this he cancelled it but kept telling me "Sir aap ko yeh karwanaa chahiye"

My question: Is it really required to get wheels aligned and balanced at 5000kms ?

Attached is the image from user manual.

If you do not see any abnormal tire wear and if your car tracks straight without any steering input then you do not need wheel alignment.

In case of balancing, check the wheels to see if all the weights are intact. In case you are missing any of these then you need to balance only that wheel.

I think it is a hangover from the Indica V2 days where you need to wheel alignment every 5k km to keep the tires in good condition. I just checked the user's manual from the TML website and for the Indica V2 it recommends wheel alignment check at 15k KM intervals, in reality 10k was the max I could stretch it.

if you drive over really, really bad roads, and the wheels are subject to lots of abuse, then yes, 5k is a good idea, especially in the first gen indicas. I had a tyre wear out almost completely due to improper alignment

I drove my swift VDi in an assumption that MASS would take care of the alignment in the services,But one fins day i realized that my tyres were wearing out unevenly.

So immediately took it for alignment and got it corrected at around 8k kms.

i will advice 5k kms as preventive maintenance.or else you might end up changing tyre only at 30k or 35k kms.

Also the thread might be good but it would have worn out in sides alone.

Got my rotation and balancing done for 470/-. Had run into a big pothole sometime back. The car now runs much smoother and vibrations on the steering reduced.
I would recommend alignment every 5000 km and it costs just 250.

Thanks Everyone
The moral of the story is "Get wheel balancing and Alignment done by Tyre Experts and not in TASC ". Also the charges are less.
Anyways I am planning to go for alloy wheels next month, will get it done at that time.

balancing needs to be done only if the tyres are changed/puncture repaired etc. As long as the tyre/wheel arrangement is undisturbed, you dont need to balance it again.

Hey friends... my vista Qudrajet (dec08) is ready for its 20K service.

Till now my car got the power windows switches changed + the steering switches (headlight) assembly change under warranty, a head light bulb (low beam right side) got faulty and required a paid changed...

and once, the engineers from TATA came to resolve the AC cooling issue

during my last service i was told that Vista qjd comes with synthetic oil and that is expensive (3-4K) but from the service report of other user in this thread (from the total bill amount) i think he got mineral oil.

can the group enlighten me what is the default oil in Vista qjd??/ is it mineral or synthetic????

current issues in vista :
wheel alignment : heard this is camber problem in the first lot of vistas... the car goes to left or right on a straight road but their is no abnormal tyre wear
noise when ever the car goes over speed breaker

heard that some suspension upgrade kit (IMO some covers) are provided by tata and the same will be taken care free of cost in next service.

can some one confirm the above things and advise?

Amit, check the owner's manual if it says mineral oil then stick to it. Synthetic oil has its own benefits but if you do not do a lot of driving then its better to stick to company specified oil given in the owner's manual.
