Congrats Sun, so you finally bought that cedia?

Battery went dead (I am suspecting the headlamp upgrade + relay to have caused this, but I am not sure). Replacing it with a new Exide battery.
Was it the OE battery, if yes, it was supposed to, given the number of kms and years on it.

Can someone help me source an original gear knob in beige colour ?
Get hold of some good car accesory dealer who provides stanley steering cover. They should get your gear nob a new stitched leather cover. In delhi I got the steering cover stitched with hand. However, I enquired for the machine stitched one as we get from OE; but for that the steering was to be sent to bangalore and the cost difference too was huge. I got mine for Rs. 800 and the machine stitching one would have costed 3k.

Thanks. Yes.

For the knob, the top portion color has faded. The leather and stitching is intact.
I wonder if the top can be painted again and if it will last if done that way.

AC is not very effective at the back, despite getting it serviced.
Looking for sun filming all around. Budget is 6-8 K. Can stretch it more, but less the better.
Conditions: Should be RTO approved.
Visibility at night should not be hampered.
Rejection of heat should be very good.

Congrats S_U_N, when did you buy, what year and colour?

Ideally the HM service guys should be able to help source all/any parts.

Best thing you could do for cars is get them serviced at Authorized Service Stations.

I got Llumar sunfilm on mine, windows cost approx 3-4k and windshield (clear) about 5k.

Both RTO approved and the heat rejection is superb.

I have seen leather being refurbished in UK, dont know if they do it here in India. It certainly can be painted, but you will have to find a leather specialist.

Did they open up the dash and clean the evaporator coil (heater core), if not that may be the reason why the AC is not effective. If you paid 3.5k plus for the same, ask them to take the dash off and clean the heater core. No other way, you can get a AC to work better, even if condensor is cleaned and AC gas is refilled.

Personally speaking, you shouldn't be needing this as the AC is an absolute chiller. Try getting the evaporator coil cleaned and AC blower cleaned; if it doesnt work, may be then, you are looking at 3M or Lumar.

I have got normal Garware for Rs 800 (except front) and the AC chills in minutes even in Hot Delhi summers.

Hi Gaurav,
What do you put as washer fluid? Is it just water or some mild shampoo for cleaning of windshield?

@ Sun, we have been using normal tap water in all our cars for years now. Mitsui ASC uses distilled water though.

Never use shampoo for cleaning automotive glass or any household glass cleaner for that matter. If you must then you can use hair conditioner, best is plain water or automotive glass cleaning liquids adequately diluted with water.

The coil temperature was found to be fine (as per the engineer) when it was checked last week. I think coil was cleaned, but not too sure.
When AC is kept on 1, I can feel cool air if I put my fingers on the vents.

The cooling is good in the front. Last evening, it was drizzling. I had to turn off the AC periodically since it was becoming cooler than ideal. But after a few minutes of driving (around 8 PM), I had to turn the AC ON again. It appears that the temperature goes up very quickly without the AC on. I have kept the AC in recirculation mode.

Back seat passengers have complained twice in the afternoon time. Blower position 2 helps a bit, and 3 is very noisy to use.

However, the entire cabin does not seem to be cooling effectively. This is even when the car is parked and not in direct sun.

Overall, I don't think sunfilming is the solution in this case, since even in parked vehicle in shade, cabin did not chill. I will be going on a long drive over the next two days. Hopefully will get a chance to sit behind and observe more.

Is it possible that air is being leaked out of the cabin from somewhere?
There are no visible gaps etc where air could escape. The body condition is very good, so the possibility is very less.

@mandheers: This is a pre-owned car. I will share details in a separate review after I am back from a trip. Till that time, I don't have much to write. I am still getting used to the size of the car.

How was the coil temperature found fine? You shouldn't be buying this. Please confirm if the coil has been cleaned or not, I have strong feeling its the coil. After all, with all those years of dusty environment driving, the coil is supposed to get choked.

ok, check for few thing, does the AC chills in the first few minutes of the driving and then cooling starts to fade?

Does your AC trips a lot in bumper to bumper traffic?

When it rains heavy, does the air from blower reduces, it is cold air but the blower even at 2 looks like it is at 1?

These are some common traits when AC of any car is not cooling to its optimum level. The compressor here is pretty heavy duty, and least do I expect it to underperform.

Things to do (should have been done at AC service)

1. check when coolant was last replaced, I hope its not running on only water? And its not over 40k kms. If needed, replace the coolant. This makes engine to remain at its optimum temperature during start/stop traffic reducing AC cutoff. Cedia has two fans up front, the car will not heat even if one of them go kaput. So, check for radiator/condensor fans.

2. Get condensor cleaned from pressure washer.

3. Check if the gas is not less, did the ASC really refill the gas?? Any leaks found in the hose pipes?

4. check for alternator/compressor belt. Has it been replaced? you have over 1 lac kms on the OD.

5. get the heater core and blower cleaned after opening the dash.

Consult an independent AC shop if you are not convinced with the ASC.

Very less propability, check for cuts in door beadings, check air circulation mode, check if the outside air is managing to come in through AC vents?

^That is a very long and detailed post. I will read it a few times in the next week to understand in detail.

This is the simplest thing for me to try on my own:
>>check if the outside air is managing to come in through AC vents
So, how exactly can I determine this?
1. Close windows
2. Turn on recirculation mode.
3. Blower knob to Off position
4. AC off?
5. Place fingers near AC vents and see if air is coming in

Or is there something else that I need to do?

@Sun, yes, let some one else drive, keep the recirculation mode on, blower off and see if you feel any air coming in through vents.

^ Returned from a 1000 KM round trip.
AC performance at back is acceptable. It keeps you comfortable at blower position 3 (and sometimes at 2). It won't however chill you at the back. Also, I need to keep AC ON for 95% of the time. This would affect the FE.
However, I must mention that most places where I had been over the trip were very hot (40+ deg C). So, I think after summer this should not be such a problem.
Cooling at the front is good - you just need to direct the vent towards you.

The car is stable at 120 (max I did was touch 140). It becomes very noisy at 120 and above.

Hey GC, I guess this video features your Great White too.

Somehow I can tell one Cedia from another when I see it.
