A few minutes back, I received confirmation from Ramkay FIAT that all the belts, oils and fluids are available for replacement for my Linea, which will get serviced there on 17 July 2013 morning. Phew! At last, I am seeing light at the end of tunnel.

This morning, Cara Mia FIAT Linea underwent a complete health check-up at FIAT Happy Camp organised by Ramkay FIAT, Chennai. This was the first time my Linea visited Ramkay FIAT, which was spacious and well-equipped. My Linea was the first to enter Ramkay FIAT after security men at 8:30 am! The SA, Arun was knowledgeable and assured me that a set of belts including timing belt kit has been reserved for my Linea for replacement during regular service scheduled for 17 July 2013. The only minor negative point that I experienced was the horrible approach road. I enjoyed discussing FIAT with the fellow-FIAT owners at the customer lounge. I received a pack of seedless dates as a parting memento from Ramkay FIAT.

Just a few minutes back, I received a call from Ramkay FIAT asking for my feed-back and suggestion for any improvement. I said that I was not given any check-list duly completed after the check-up was over since the SA knew that my Linea would visit again for regular service on 17 July 2013. She informed that they did not give the completed check-list to others too and noted my suggestion. She confirmed my Linea's appointment tomorrow.

Thumbs up Sixth Service @ Ramkay FIAT, Chennai

Cara Mia FIAT Linea returned back home yesterday afternoon after enjoying her stay at Ramkay FIAT, Chennai, from 17 - 20 July 2013 for the sixth service costing Name: rupeesymbol.gif
Views: 1883
Size: 578 Bytes 31,779, which I paid by my credit card without any extra charges. All the belts, clutch kit, brake pads/discs, oils, fluids, filters, link rods, swinging arms, spark plugs, etc., were replaced. Some of the wear-and-tear parts replaced like belts, clutch and spark plugs, have still considerable life left in them. But, I insisted on changing them as a preventive maintenance step to ensure peace of mind. Thankfully, all the parts and consumables were readily available at Ramkay FIAT.

Ramkay FIAT is very spacious. They have 22 bays. With only FIATs coming for servicing and repairs, it results in huge per-capita availability of space for my Linea, which is a major attraction for me as compared to other cramped FASS. Even Concorde Motors, Mysore Road/Dairy Circle, where my Linea was serviced five times, were cramped due to presence of Tata Motors cars. Even their customer lounge used to be full most of the times. My Linea was attended to by Arun, SA, who kept me informed at every stage of the servicing. I visited on 18 July 2013, inspected the works and clicked some photographs.

I had only one complaint: the horn pad was working only on one touch-point and not on others. This was repaired and now the horn pad is touch-sensitive at all points! I requested Arun not to paste the Ramkay sticker on the rear window. This was also done!

During the check-up camp, which my Linea attended on 13 July 2013, I was assured that discounts for spares/consumables/labour would be extended during my Linea's servicing. True to their words, 10% discount was given on the spares and consumables and 20% for labour, which resulted in major saving. Also, I observed that the cost of most of the spares and consumables replaced was far less, even before discounting, than the ones charged by Concorde Motors, Mysore Road, two years back. The cost charged was less than the ones printed on the carton. Perhaps, FIAT must have reduced the costs. The labour charges also appear very reasonable. I observed that washing and cleaning were separated from the paid servicing. When asked, Arun confirmed that it was as per FIAT directions. I was charged for consumables, but not for on-board scanning and windscreen washer fluid.

On the whole, I am fully satisfied with the service rendered by Ramkay FIAT.

Glad the things were managed in a very assured manner by Ramkay.
You must be a relieved man after this as initially you were tensed about the whole service and the unavailability about the parts.
Great going by Fiat.

I don't know about others but this time I do sense a seriousness from Fiat.

Just recently two my hose pipe which takes the smoke into the inter cooler were busted and had a power loss in the car.

Went over to Fiat after sales here in Pune without taking any appointment and that too on a Saturday (more cars expected) - was attended on request in flat 15 minutes , car was taken on the ramp in next one hour and all work done with a wash in 2 hours from then.

Super effort !! Was a happy then and my weekend was saved .

With 55K on the odo my 60K service around, your post has definitely given a clear picture as what all needs to be done.

Thanks.

Thanks, scofield. Yes, I lost my patience when I came to know that not a single timing belt was available either in Bangalore or in Chennai. But, eventually, the sixth servicing ended in comedy. One good thing about FIATs is that the next servicing is only after 15 k km or one year, whichever is earlier; until then, I need not lose my patience!

Thanks Ravi Ji for the detailed report. I am now planning the 2 year service for my Linea at Ramkay.

I do have one question here. Is the brake pads for FIRE and MJD different? RDC billed me Rs. 2873 without tax and Rs. 950 towards labor for replacing the same recently which seems way higher than Ramkay.

No. I don't think so. Please check the part number.

I have the carton, which gives the following details:

Packed date: 28.06.2013

Part Number/Description: 77362180/Brake Pad Set

MRP [inclusive of taxes]: Name: rupeesymbol.gif
Views: 1944
Size: 578 Bytes 2,780.00

As per Ramkay FIAT's bill: Name: rupeesymbol.gif
Views: 1944
Size: 578 Bytes 2428.02

VAT @ 14.5% of 2428.02: 352.06

Total as per Ramkay FIAT's bill: 2428.02+352.06=Name: rupeesymbol.gif
Views: 1944
Size: 578 Bytes2,780.08

So, it clearly shows RDC FIAT charged Name: rupeesymbol.gif
Views: 1944
Size: 578 Bytes581.50 [inclusive of VAT] more for the part and Name: rupeesymbol.gif
Views: 1944
Size: 578 Bytes710 more for labour, totalling Name: rupeesymbol.gif
Views: 1944
Size: 578 Bytes1,291.50 additional expense. Or perhaps, FIAT India must have reduced the cost of the parts and labour.

I think so. I told them to use Selenia K only and was assured of the same. I understand FIAT has offered some discounts for spares and consumables plus Ramkay FIAT has offered additional 10% discounts too resulting in lower cost. I have observed reduced price for almost all the parts. A new part number is shown for Selenia K: 59064674 with the description: Engine Oil Ptl 200I.

Angry Ramkay FIAT Did Not Reset Service Reminder

Today, while I was checking my Linea's customary health parameters on the eve of her drive from Chennai to Bangalore, I was shocked to notice that Ramkay FIAT did not reset the service reminder after the recent sixth servicing and the MID was showing that the next service was due at 2265 km. After contacting the SA Arun, I drove to Ramkay FIAT in the afternoon and got it reset. Partly, it was my mistake too as I did not check it while taking delivery of my Linea after the service as Concorde Motors, Bangalore, never faulted on this in all the 5 services. FIAT ASS have a long way to go to come up in the customer satisfaction index, IMO.

Thumbs up One More Chennai-Bangalore Trip

My Linea brought me and wife safely and comfortably to our Bangalore home today at 1:30 am. We left Royapettah, Chennai at 6:10 pm last evening. We had one hour dinner break [7 to 8 pm] at Saravana Bhavan, Porur and 30 minutes fuel and coffee break [11:45 pm to 00:15 am] at BP COCOO/A2B, Chinnar. TN-KA border at Zuzuwadi/Attibele was deserted at 00:45 am, perhaps attributable to long weekend holidays.

Size: 578 Bytes74.49 at IOCL Woodlands Enterprises, Chennai.

I observed that my Linea has become peppier and smoother to drive due to replacement of essential parts during the sixth service, thanks to Ramkay FIAT, Chennai.

According to a notice pasted at Chennasamudram toll plaza counter, local vehicles registered at TN 23/73 RTO need to pay half the toll only. This facility was not available for local vehicles in other toll plazas.

Here are the vital parameters of the trip.

Ravi Ji, it seems you took the GQ after a long time. How is the road condition and how do you compare this with that of Mulbagal route?

Yes, Ramesh, thanks to anti-Telangana stir. I did not want to take even slightest risk. A few days back, I did the same route solo on my Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500. The details are here (Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 : My Motorcycle Diaries). On that day itself, I decided to drive on this GQ route in my Linea.

Most of the 6-laning works from Chennasamudram toll plaza upto Krishnagiri toll plaza are completed except for some flyovers, where there are nice diversions to pass through. There was not even a single traffic jam anywhere. From Krishnagiri toll plaza to Attibele toll plaza, 6-laning works are in progress and one has to drive carefully especially at the inter-state border. I know the reason behind your query.

I will be taking this route again in future as road-widening works are in progress from Muabagilu to KA-AP border.
