As heard on this forum as well as TeamFiat forum about FIAT replacing clutch slave cylinder, had given car for plastic part replacement. Along with that has asked to tighten the front RH side window. Total bill came as 93/-. Post this slave cylinder replacement, the gear shift quality has improved a bit. Have completed, 16500 KMs now and no other major issues, touch wood.

Update: 3rd Free service and Around 22000 KMs on Odo

Wow, last 2 years have been wonderful to say the least. Its been a pleasure driving this beauty all over the places. There had not been even a single let down experience. Done 22000 KMs in 2 years which itself is a record for me, since I could only clock around 21K KMs in 5 years in my Palio.

I would not go over the same things like how she looks, how she behaves on roads etc. since it has been covered a lot times across so many threads. I will stick to points which may help people decide if they would like to buy Punto or not.

Issues:
1. kat-kat sound from dashboard left bottom - HVAC pipe was not fitted properly. Fixed during 2nd service and then it never came back.
2. Driver side window used to create kat sound - Fixed during 3rd service
3. Slave clutch cylinder: Replaced FOC as part of a recall.

Financial facts
1. Total Service cost (From 12th Mar 2010 - Mar 2012): Includes Servicing, Add Ons (Under body coat+ 3M Filming), repairs (Driver side RVM) etc: 18495/-
2. First Service: 300/-, Second service: 6068/-, Third= 5474/-, Total = 11842/-
3. Under body coat: 2800/-
4. 3M filming: 3500/-
5. Insurance: First year = 0/-, Second = 10696/-, Third = Due in a week, Total = 10696/-
6. Fuel: Running in calender 2010: 8758 KM, 16.75 kmpl, Spent 22161/-
7. Fuel: Running in calender 2011: 10142 KM, 16.78 kmpl, Spent 26655/-
8. Fuel: Running in calender 2012: 1956 KM, 17.85 kmpl, Spent 6252/-
9. Total running: 21360 KM, Diesel: 1272.84 Ltrs, FE: 16.78 kmpl, 90% ACC at 23C, Total spent around 55K on Fuel
10. Per KM expense (Fuel)= 2.58/-, Per KM Expense (Fuel+Mnt+Insurance) =3.94/-

No part has fallen off since last 21795 KMs and 2 years of ownership

I can say that I am one of the few luckiest FIAT owners around, who has not faced any service related issue, any part related issue or any car manufacturing defect, since Apr 2005 till Mar 2012 (Palio: 2005-2010, Punto: 2010-2012)

Will keep on updating the thread as and when required.

Finally the milestone achienved in 2.8 years of ownership. Its 30000 KM now and how !!

I simply love my Punto ! Its a pleasure to drive her and specially on highways. Touch wood but I have NOT faced any serious issue so far. Only a single instance but that too was simple to diagnose and cure.

Following are the statistics so far:

Car age: 2.8 years
Total Run: 30000 KM
Total Diesel consumed: 1746.75 ltrs
Monthly run: Around 950 km (I know its kinda less for a diesel car)
Cost per KM (Only fuel): 2.62/-
Cost per KM (Fuel, repair, service, add-ons, everything else): 4.22/-
Max FE: 20.91 kmpl
Min FE: 13.77 kmpl
Avg FE: 17.03 kmpl
Service cost: 11842/- for 3 services (300/-, 6068/- and 5474/-)

Overall, I am very happy with the car. I would highly recommend the car to people who are not bothered about of FIAT service (Blown out of proportion service stories).

MODS: Could you please update the thread title to: 30000 KM update and move the thread to long term review sub forums?

Congratulations neoonwheels for the 30000km mark completion. As you rightly said Fiat A.S.S. is blown out of proportion. This car proves that a car can be both safe and solid as well as frugal as well as look deliciously beautiful whether standing or rolling only the way any Italian can. Your mileage is low but still you've the diesel advantage so that is what you should be happy about as against us petrol driving petrolheads who have to wimp about the high cost of running.

Congratulations neonwheels on completion of 30,000 kms :-)

I got myself a Punto 90HP after reading yours & other Punto threads on TBHP. I'm also in love with the car. Moreover we have the same color too!!

Completely agree with you when you say that Fiat *SS is blown out of proportion. I have only one dealership in my city, but I find them to be extremely competent. I stand vindicated because nobody encouraged me while buying a Fiat other than th Punto/Linea threads on TBHP!!

Happy motoring :-)

neononwheels, congrats on the 30000kms milestone. It is quite a significant one. Our story with the Punto has been similar. I have clocked 34000 kms in my 3 years one month ownership. Out of these 90% are crunched on highways. Absolutely love the highway cruising ability of the Punto. Wish you many more happy miles with your machine

Yeh, its been a wonderful journey so far. Upgrading from Palio to Punto was not at all surprising, knowing the strengths of a FIAT.

I am delighted to know that my thread was useful in your decision making. I hope FIAT succeeds in their (yet another) new inning.

When I bought my car (Emo pack), the difference between same trim of Petrol model was only 55000/-. So according to my Excel file, I have already made up for that initial amount . I now feel good whenever I fill diesel, knowing the fact that I am saving on my fuel expenses by the margin of diesel-petrol pricing difference !

Added another 10000km to the Odo . The overall ownership experience has been good to say the least. This time, I would stick to the monetary terms as far as ownership is concerned so that people would get an idea about up-keeping this car.

Got the car on: 12th Mar 2010
Total diesel consumed: 2355 ltrs
Average FE over 40000km: 16.98 kmpl
Servicing cost (4) : 21727/-
Running repair (Parts, consumables etc): 15283/-
Add ons (Sunfilms, underbody coat etc): 6300/-
Accident repair: 4400 (Windshield, right mirror glass, right headlamp)
Insurance (Till now): 29260/-

Cost per KM (Diesel): 2.79/-
Cost per KM (Diesel + upkeep): 4.76/-

Its been a wonderful affair with this beauty. Would be completing 4 years on 12th March. Following is the overall ownership update on the maintenance front. Also, would be putting on new tires soon.

PS: Diesel per KM and Cost per KM is in Rupees. Also the cost per KM is = Diesel + Servicing + Insurance + Running repair + AddOns

Here is the 50K update:

The car is running good as usual but there are 2 issues that I have faced in last 4.9 years of ownership.

1. The starter motor went kaput at ODO 38500KM. Since the car was under extended warranty, got it fixed FOC. The cost was around 8K for the motor and some 2K labor.

2. The BlueNMe system is not reading any USB. Seems the unit is gone. I am able to make call, pair phones, voice commands work good, its only the USB functionality which has stopped. I tried with 3-4 USBs (All with FAT32) but the system never plays the songs. I am yet to get it checked at the ASS though. Would update the thread on the finding soon.

Following are the latest snapshots of the overall upkeep of the car:

The BluNMe has started acting normal. May be disconnecting the battery for 5 mins did the trick.

Update: 6th service done at 53K KM (60K service)

1. The total bill came to 13500/-
2. Engine oil, brake fluid, transmission oil, PS oil changed
3. All filters changed
4. The front right suspension was creating a kchhhh kcchhh noise - Narrowed down to Strut pad. As of now changed only the problematic one - 2500/- (Included in 13500/-)

The car feels like "almost" new. May be in 2-3 months, would change the right side strut pad as well. Early next month the car would complete 5 years and in all probability would get a gift in form of a "remap"

neoonwheels - a great narration on the ownership of this wonderful car. My Fiat Punto 1.3 MJD emotion variant has clocked 91,000 km's. No major repairs, no falling apart of parts, a beautiful car to say the least

A quick question - where do you do the servicing of your car, is it pandit auto in bavdhan. I always take my car there since they seem to be the most reliable and overall customer experience has definitely improved a lot recently.
