As of OBD scanner , i bought it from dealextreme.com, software i am using scanmaster elm. this is more that sufficient for basic diagnostic.
Thanks Vinod. I have ordered the OBD scanner cable and want to try the freeware from rosstech. I will share my experience with you.

Default re: Skoda Octavia vRS - 12/2004 - Diamond Grey - Update @ 46500 kms

Back after a 20 days vacation. RS had multiple troubles.

1. Battery gone dead. - Jump started. Drove around to get the battery charged. After 5 to 7 kms suddenly the car started jerking and CEL was flashing.

Scanned got following error

Stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) (Mode 03)
P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
Vehicle Area: Powertrain (P)
Area of Vehicle System: Ignition System or Misfire
Controlled by: ISO/SAE Controlled Code (Core DTC)
Controll Unit: $10 - Engine

Bought Coil @ Rs 2500/- and replaced.
Again the the battery was dead it was not holding charge. Again jump started and took a round. The car was running smooth, suddenly another observation car started heating it crossed 90 mark which it has never done till date. Parked over and checked.

2. AC fan not working it the bigger one. The smaller one was ON. Called FNG to enquire the stock availability and price. He had a NON OE fan @ Rs 3000/-. Drove straight to him and got it replaced. Fitment was quick and easy.

3. Again next day morning the car did start, battery dead and finally jump started and now the EPC light glows. On scanning in found

P0688 - ECM/PCM Power Relay Sense Circuit/Open
Vehicle Area: Powertrain (P)
Area of Vehicle System: Computer and Auxiliary Outputs

Googled and found that even Low battery can generate this error or could be a blown main fuse. Cleared and Ordered Exide Max DIN 60 @ Rs 4800. it comes with 18 months replacement warranty. Half crank the car came to life. As of now every thing is smooth.

Total damages in 1.5 days is 2500 + 3000 + 4800 = 10300/-

Another major expense pending - TB kit change. Hope fully will get it done this month.

Hi V&V - thanks for the progress update. I have finally managed to get some miles on mine, no issues to report. Even my car had the issue of the fan being replaced which the previous owner had replaced it, I guess it's a common problem. Hope you have been well.

Also on a side note - I have decided not to make any performance upgrades . She has quite a bit of juice in stock. You were right - no mods needed. I am contemplating a tyre upgrade - any suggestions ?

Best - Motoringlover.

Hi ML

Nice to know RS in top shape. IMO I always believe RS in current state has enough power to burn tyres.

As for tyres mine is on YOKOHAMA Sdrive. Pretty happy with it. You can also checkout Michelin.

Get your AC Filter / Pollen Filter cleaned or replaced as required.

Do you park it in open?

Cheers,
Ardy

Hi Ardy - Both the filters were changed in the last service and yes i do park in the open. I always use the the Aircon in the Recirculate mode, could that be an issue.

@ML check if the pollen filter is properly fitted/slotted and also get the plenum chamber cleaned. Well i too park in open, but i do get a air wash of engine and plenum chamber once a month.

I am looking forward to change my brake rotors , both front & rear. After getting my brake pads changed ,the breaking was not at all to the mark. Got it checked at a local garage where I am regular with my other cars , and they pointed out on the life of the rotors being over.

Any suggestion as to what should be good as a replacement along with the costs.

Well I am not sure if you ever intend to up the power rating on your RS, this might be an opportunity to consider a brake upgrade say TAROX, I had sometime back had the opportunity of driving a modified RS of a fellow member it certainly had an improved bite in comparison to my stock.

Could you please share at what mileage of your car are you considering a rotor upgrade ? Thanks

Best ML

Any information on Tarox for procurement and price. Though they are available with Pete's, but somehow I find all his stock highly priced!

My vRS has just crossed the 65k mark. I am still running on original clutch.

Thanks!

ADIT,
Brake pads are spongy for first 300 to 500 km. After it will be ok. I too had this similar issue but now it's ok. By the way which brand you changed to ?

Usually RS stock rotors have decent life and is enough for stock cars.

Thanks for the update aditbelw - I am very happy to hear about the clutch bit as I am also in the same mileage zone. Mine is at 62k. I was contemplating upping the power on my car and I did contact Pete sometime back. I have some reference quotes from him for your reference. This was part of the stage 2 upgrade part. I would recommend getting more recent quotes if you are considering them, these are dated.

8. Tarox Rotors front set - 33500
9. OR Tarox Rotors uprated to 312mm - 46000
10. Tarox Rotors rear 232mm 22000

11. Tarox Strada brake pads front - 12850
12. Tarox Strada brake pads rear - 9800
13. OR Tarox Rallye front pads - 14200

What is cost of a skoda OE rotor set ? Front and back.

Best - ML

I would suggest you to get a set of OE rotors replacement, and get a set of Hawk brake pads. Hawk HPS, of if you do ot mind a squealing sound on braking, the Hawk HP+. I am using the same, and the braking power is just Insane. You can contact PJSPEED on the forum for more details of the same.

Please note- I am in no way connected to him commercially.

I am just talking with extensive experience of using Tarox and Hawk on Rs's.

V, I guessed so , but after 1000km they are still the same,Spongy! As for the pads, don't remember the brand but they were made in Germany.

Thanks a lot for the price quotes, this will help in negotiating better. Skoda is asking for 28k for set of 4 rotors.

Thanks JayD. I tried contacting pjspeed, still waiting for a response. Though, I have found some performance rotor's on ebay.co.uk landed cost without duties @ 17k. What do you guys suggest, should I try them?

Also , one issue has cropped up with the car today. While doing a OBD diagnosis today, an error cropped up:

Diagnostic Information

Confirmed Trouble Codes
P0300: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
(Powertrain, Generic)

Pending Trouble Codes

Freeze Frame
P0300:Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
(Powertrain, Generic)
Fuel system status, Fuel system 1: Closed loop (1)
Fuel system status, Fuel system 2: NA
Calculated engine load: 8.2%
Engine Coolant Temperature:96 C
Short Term Fuel Trim - Bank 1: 14.1%
Long Term Fuel Trim - Bank 1: -3.9%
Engine RPM: 1560 RPM
Vehicle Speed Sensor: 25 Km/h

Though, I did not feel anything while driving the car nor it was hesitating in pickup or low speeds.

Anyone knows what could be the issue?

Thanks!
