Picture of a well maintained car. I am not very sure, if moderator will hide the reg. no. One need to do it before uploading it. This is what my understanding.

@ getsriram,

how did the wrinkles appear on the front bumper below the MS logo?

I am assuming that these are not images taken before delivery of the car.

best regards

Hi Vaseem

These are the latest pics of the car. The front bumper alone seems to give away the painting... I am looking for a solution for this... not sure if a repainting would do as people say that paint doesnt fit well with the fibre part... If I go for replacement under insurance, i need to shell more i guess...

any suggestions?

Nice review Sriram.

Agree with you on on most points . But few things I didnt quite understand.

Audio system (If Maruti had it as an option and reduced the price marginally, I believe they could have sold more SX4s)..

I am pretty sure SX4 VXi has integrated Audio as OE

there are other small things which I think Maruti missed. (cigarette lighter - it costed me Rs70/- what's the problem in making it factory fit),

I think Cigarette lighter was also OE

During driving the car, especially at high speeds, I felt the car almost starts to float (may be even because of the higher GC), which is at time scary.

Driven upto 140 kmph while on a coimbatore trip with confidence. On relatively high speed runs (80-90kmph) on wet roads (MC road, Kerala) Felt the car to be very grippy. This is relative to the Swift and Baleno that I owned earlier.

My OE turanza has just about 25% tread left. How about yours
Planning on Putting Wider Rubber Soon! My car is in for 30k Service. Estimate given is 3k.

Also my Rear dicky refuses to remain open on its own. This started after adding the Lip Spoiler (MGA). Need to sort that out.

The Bumper must taken a hit. No Need to replace the bumper that too under insurance. they would charge you 50 % plus compulsory excess. And you would loose your NCB. The Bumper is fine the paint over it needs to be scraped and the Bumper needs to be repainted. Should cost about 3k.

Seems you have not fitted the MGA fog lamps as mentioned earlier.

Hi Suresh Kishore,

All your queries answered...

1. SX4 VXi has an inbuilt audio system. What I had mentioned was that, If they had given it as an option, instead of a standard equipment, people would have purchased more VXis and installed their own audio system in it.

2. Cigaratte lighter was not there in my car, it had to be purchased

3. Speed- Again, I had mentioned that till 120-140kmph it is ok. But beyond that I felt that the car seems to loose its grip and the handling is not that great.

4. My stock tyres are still Ok. quite a bit of tread left. Not much exposed to the curvy and demanding Kerala roads i guess

5. God... I too have the problem with the boot lid. I don't even have the spoiler on it. I have mentioned it to the service center, they said they have a small clamp like part which can be fitter for it, but do not have the availability now. . The other day I saw my neighbor's esteem. It had the same dicky mechanism, but was working too good. Need to check it out with him I guess

6. If re-painting will stick for long then I would do it..should I go for dealer painting or outside. which is recommended?

7. Fog lamps - I had recently fitted the fog lamps. Must 2-3 weeks. These pics were taken before that. That's why you don't see them. I also changed the headlamps to 100/90 along with the fogs.

Repainting will solve this but i dont think you can claim insurance for it as no surveyor will approve it. My suggestion wait for some more scratches on the bumper and then get it repainted.

Hi Vaseem

Valid Point on painting. On Insurance, the service centre guys seem to have an understanding with insurance i believe, they can spin a story. I heard it in other places as well.

On the painting -> There are quite a few small scratches throughout the car, nothing major. But the car is loosing its shine. Can we re-paint the entire car, now that it is almost 3 years. and importantly what could be cost? any idea?

repainting the car not a good idea at all. Get it detailed by some professional detailer & voila it will be back to its old self.

by the way

do you wax your car regularly?

who washes the car & how often?

best regards

The car is washed by person everyday (not a professional). A caretaker sort of person. I have given the car for detailing once this year. So did a basic waxing, nothing advanced.

I happened to visit MASS recently. There is a board which says the cost of repainting the entire car. Varies from around Rs 15000 for M800 to Rs 36000 for Sx4.

Did any one notice the large uneven gap between the bumper and the head light on the left hand side? The panel gaps seem to increase over a period of time, as the fitting of bumper is too flimsy in SX4. Perhaps it sags down/gets misaligned easily even if you nudge the bumper very very slightly against any object.

36K!! I dont think that is worth the money. Best to try to find out a good place where re-painting can be done locally. I think we should be able to do it at less than half the cost.

Has anyone tried doing the repainting job for your car? or any of your friends have?

A local paint job will leave your car looking worse 99 out of 100 times.

Dullness of paint is mainly due to minute scratches which you get when wiping the car, ( All black cars are most prone to this ) which can easily be rectified by a good polish job every 3 months.

best regards

This problem has resulted in quite a few nasty Bumps on my head. Could be even more dangerous with Kids. Need to get it sorted out with the dealer. But My Extended Warranty just Ran out and I would have to pay for whatever remedy.

Dealer Paintjob may not be great Always. If you have a Specialist Outside I would reccommend it.

There is a discussion/debate happening in the following link. May be some of you can give your input on SX4
