The Corolla is almost sold ; finalised the deal and have received part of the cash.

I have applied for a NOC for transfer to the buyer at Vadodara and that should be done in 4-5 days, after which it will be "bidaai" time.

This buggy will always be in my memory for
  • the ac issues that had to be resolved and the knowledge and expertise I gained in the process
  • the pain in maintaining a dark colour and the solution that I found to reduce effort
I can safely lay claim to be an ac pundit now.

Thank you Blue Beauty

I know you are sad to let it go, but then there are many things in life. I hope you pick up another decent mount at your next place.

He sold it since he moved to Chennai. He was quite happy with it. He has bought another Corolla 2005 in Chennai. This time it is a MT.

Thanks for giving the update @sgiitk

I'd have loved to bring the blue to Chennai but the unfriendly RTO rules made me take a painful call of giving her away.

A new DZire was my first choice but with Manesar happening, I said Thank you Maruti.

Then I decided on my old love and scouted around for a used Corolla - I wanted to get an AT here but found none;so got a MT.

The one I have acquired is a superwhite 2005 facelifted H5(top end manual with leather seats, fake wood finish on steering wheel and audio controls on steering).

The common factor on both the blue and this one is the tyres-Michellin PLC but this one rides much better probably because of the better suspension.

The MT gear box is notchy and the clutch , hard but still a very decent drive.I drove from crowded Royapettah to my house at Kodambaks in peak traffic with no problems.

A striking difference is the engine rpm at 70kmph - the auto used to be at 1500rpm or so while this one is a tad more at 1900-2000rpm even with the fifth gear engaged-no issues with the clutch though.

I am yet to accurately calculate FE but in my last fill calculated it to be roughly 13kmpl on the Ashok Pillar-kathipara-alandur-velachery-OMR sector 3pm-2am

Joshguy ,please look out for ads in sulekha or carwale or better still visit TSMahalingam &sons- they normally have good examples

I have seen scores of Corollas on Chennai roads but only a few on sale ; so patience is the key.

and chennai examples are way way better than surat ones.

You can get a 2006 example for approx 4lacs - and I can't think of a better fully loaded C+ segment all rounder at this price point

@vigsom; I was only doing my duty. As for the higher rpm this is quite normal due to the somewhat taller gearing of the AT. In the Civic AT it is 50kph / 1000 rpm. However, I must say I am a bit surprised since the Toyota AT you had was a 4-speed while the MT is five speed. This was the main reason I opted for the Honda rather than the Toyota.

The most detailed Corolla Ownership review I have come across on team bhp.

We have a 2006 May Corolla H5 MT.Its run 80K till date.

I'm planning to get the car refurbished a little. The stuff the car requires are:
1.Full Paintjob
2.80k Service
3.New Clutch
4.Suspension Overhaul
5.Replacement of all door beadings.

What would be the aprox costs of everything.I will be getting the work done from Topsel Toyota, the local Toyota dealer.

Thanks for your replies in advance.
