^^ that is a good deal - congratulations!!!

your tyre change would set you back by approx 25k ; as long as the car is mechanically sound, you have nothing to worry about.

The mesh looks very nice on your car.

Want to adopt it. Would you please let me know how you got it fixed? It would be great if you could just let us all know how to fix it step by step.

Thanks.

^^ it will require some effort from your side - you'll need a guy who'd be willing to help you cut and fit the mesh and not just quote astronomically for it.

Get mesh from a hardware store , give it a good silver coat and then get someone to fit it from inside the bumper - you'll need to remove the bumper , use a cardboard to mark the profile , cut the mesh out using the cardboard template and then fix the mesh.

hope this helps

Have been following your thread and it is very good.

Have some queries regarding Corolla automatic in general -
a) What is the periodicity for the transmission fluid change ?
b) How much does this cost ?
c) Since the engine uses a timing chain ... will it require any attention?
d) Engine mounts ...... are they difficult to obtain for your model?
e) Were the a/c spares you procured easily available ?

I am on the look out for a similar car as yours but in bangalore.

Until vigsom responds:

a,b. Should be 40,000 or 80,000km. See the price of any standard AT fluid. I may add that the Mk.I Indica used the same stuff in the gearbox.

c. Definitely, I suspect about 80000 to 100000km / 10 years.

d. Should not be a problem.

e. Standard stuff, may take a few days in the worst case. While Toyota will replace the entire compressor he replaced pasts (outside) and finally fixed it. I was in correspondence with him in this phase.

Thanks sgiitk.

I had palio s-10, which I sold recently now on the lookout for used corolla AT in bangalore. This thread helped a lot in clearing a few questions I had in mind about the Corolla Automatic. I checked out a car yesterday, the car appeared to give small jerk something like ..... a hiccup I would say , when put on D and the brake released without giving the throttle. Is it common in Auto transmission ?

@bbops1; This slight kick is not totally unusual in ATs, esp those with powerful engines. I have a Honda Civic AT which is altogether a different kettle of fish. The new Corolla has a six (or is it seven) speed box which is based on a CVT. At idle the car will tend to creep a bit when in gear, and this behaviour in my view is just a manifestation of this. I have had at least one AT since 1999 so should know a bit.

@bbops1

Thanks for the compliments on the thread.

Just to add to what @sgiitk has posted,

a) under normal driving conditions the Tranny Oil does not need replacement ;no harm in replacing it at 1,00,000kms though

b) sourced one liter of Toyota T-IV AT transmission fluid from UAE ;this was just to keep for an emergency top up. It cost me 25dirhams a litre. No other transmission fluid should be used.

c) inspected the timing chain at 72,000 kms(but suspect the car has done over a lac) and it is perfect

d) Engine mounts were sourced from Mumbai ; quite expensive, non-genuine but good stuff. The mounts are real tough-one of them is even bigger than a Wagon-R lower suspension arm

e)A/C spares are available but of Chinese/Thai make.My a/c was badly attended to before the car came to me and hence all these issues.

If you get a well maintained and responsibly run example , I believe you shouldn't have such issues in the a/c and the mounts at all.

The car does lunge forward when you engage D and I also view this as a healthy sign ; you must press the brake before engaging D.

If you must buy one, look for a Type2 Corolla(post Aug2005) which comes with ABS as well

Good luck !!!!

I found this site while checking on info about automatics.
www.samarins.com/check/transmission.html

Also I got a service schedule ( non indian ) for Toyota vehicles. Here it is mentioned that the transmission fluid needs to be replaced once in 6 years or 96k kms. The guys at Nandi toyota were saying the fluid replacement is not necessary as it is meant for lifetime.

hi Vigsom and other corolla owners and experts. I need some help with a july 2003 Toyota Corolla H4 1.8G (automatic). i Just test drove the car and noticed these few issues and needed advise.
1) the car has vibrations creeping into the cabin at idle.
2) the whole car shudders when put into 'D' from 'P'
3) The door locks on the right side (both front and back seemed very spongy to operate)
4) the front right hand side window was malfunctioning i.e not closing completly

These apart I thought H4 comes with leather seat trims. However, this car had Fabric seat covers.

I did not check the transmission fluid. Shall do so on my next visit to the seller.

The price quoted by the seller is 2.35 L and the car has done 87000 kms.

I would be grateful if you guys could advise me on this car, especially the vibration aspect.

Thanks.

A slight add on to my earlier post on 2003 corolla H4 1.8G.
The vibrations disappear once the car is in motion. Also the car shudders every time the 'D' gear is engaged.
Look forward to your advise. Thanks in advance.

To me the first suspect will be a bad engine mount. Check and if so find the price of replacing it. The vibration can be a good bargaining point. If it is not something that simple steer away from the car.

@pkb,

engine mounts are bad.

H4 comes in leather trim. The leather must have worn off leaving the owner no choice but to put some seat covers and hence the fabric.

There's no need to consider this car ; look for better examples
