Just completed a trip to Valparai and back. The car did pretty well and I did feel the need for some more power in some ghat stretches. The handling and ride were topnotch. Overall it managed to deliver 15.1 kmpl (MID) with 100% AC . The car has now clocked a total of 2100 kms on the ODO.

Gave the Linea a couple of accessories today:
1. K&N Stock Replacement air filter
2. Smart Eye reverse sensor

Was deferring the parking sensors for a long time just because of the rear-view mirror. The models that I have seen so far had a huge rear view mirror with the indicators for the sensors that would be fitted over the existing mirror and they were very huge in size when compared to the original. But, I came across this new model from "Smart Eye" which has a small display unit which can be placed on the dashboard and will fold and open while engaging the reverse gear. This model seemed very impressive and hence got it fitted. Some pictures:

The sensors

The display unit when folded

The display when open. It flips open when the reverse gear is engaged and closes down when engaged out of reverse.

Total Damage:

K&N - Rs.5000/-
Reverse Sensor - Rs. 3700/- + Rs.100 for painting the sensors to white.

People interested in the tire upgrade, check out this picture, it shows the height different between 195/60 R15 and 195/65 R15. Clicked it while upgrading it in my friends Linea MJD.

That looks significant. Has it increased the GC? How about the handling?

Yes. It has significantly increased the GC, but i do not have the exact number. No changes in handling.

But I hear the T-Jet 16'' tires are better in this regard did your friend consider going for those? I feel that the Tire up-size is a bit too much.

Wont this void the warranty?

Upgrading to 16" alloys is way over the budget. Also I have never heard FIAT denying warranty for tyre upgrades.

If FIAT does not deny warranty for upgrading to 16" would they do it for switching over from 60 to 65?

I doubt of it being a problem , Fiat hardly sells any lineas ( as compared to the no:s of competition) least they can do is to keep their existing customers happy. Moreover Fiat is not as stubborn as the Skoda , rather they are more flexible and helpful , at least my Fiat service centre is.

So the budget was the cause; Thanks for the clarification. I have seen them denying the warranty. So I asked my query. Suspension related issues are the explanation they normally give.

I was talking about the T-Jet OEM alloys upgrade. 16" normal alloys will void the warranty. At least that is what the people over there told me when I had gone for an inquiry.

You are really lucky in that matter. Less selling cars does not mean that the company will accommodate warranty violations. I have seen warranty getting void because of up-sizing.

Default re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: Ownership Log @ 93,000 km!

The car has clocked 9500 kms as of now and I have some news.

Broken Combination Switch:

Few months back, our driver somehow managed to break the Indicator/Headlight combination switch. Still wondering on how he managed to do it. There was no point in shouting at him and called up A.S.S to inquire on the switch. I was told it had to be replaced as a complete set and would be costing about 7to7.5k. Felt it to be way expensive and that is when I was reminded of Kava (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/mumbai...le-mumbai.html (Fiat Spare Parts - Kava Automobile (Mumbai))). Called them up and ordered it for just 2.5K! I received the part in a couple of days time and got it fixed from my electrician.

All was fine after that and that was when the need for power popped up.

Race Chipped:

After driving my friends Palio's with RaceChip and positive reviews from couple of Linea owners in Team-BHP and Team-Fiat I decided to get it for out Linea too. Ordered online and got it delivered in 4 days. Total cost was 13.4K inclusive of duty. The chip was installed with the ODO on 8000 kms. Drove for about 900kms with stock setting and then changed the power setting to 3. The power has been awesome. Overtaking has become fun but the only aspect is that there is not much difference below 1700 RPM.

Fuel efficiency remains un-changed after adding the chip, delivering 14 kmpl in city and 22kmpl on highway.

Recall blues:

This is the first recall we have received. Never had any re-calls for any of our 5 other FIAT's. Last month, got a call from Gem Motors stating that our Linea is in the list for power steering hose replacement and got it done. Promised delivery was 1 day but they took 1 and a half days to deliver. Along with the power steering work, I had asked them to check the RL door lock as it was refusing to lock and door open warning was flashing. The lock was also replaced under warranty.

Overall, I was very happy with the quality of work but felt that they could have delivered the car in a single day.

Today afternoon, I received a call again from Gem Motors that they need to check the QC seal in our Linea's rear-axle. They said that if the seal is not present, then it has to be replaced. Planning to get it checked next week.

Since the next service is due after 5-6000kms or in February, planning to rotate the tires and have the alignment and balancing checked at 10k. Will put up the updates once done.

Visited Gem Motors last week and was shown that the seal is not present and hence they replaced the rear axle.

After that, I finally managed to get some long pending tasks done for the Linea, got my calipers painted in red. Did not have the time to remove the calipers and get them powder coated, so just got a simple enamel paint job for it.

And this is what the Linea MJD is capable of delivering when driven at speeds hovering around 90-100 and not more.

WOW!

24.6 kmpl! I'm impressed with the car as well as your driving style! Do you use normal diesel or speed?

Thanks anurag, I'm using regular diesel. FIAT too recommends the same.

@h14

Are the mud flaps on your car OE?

IMO somehow it is spoiling the look of the car! Aren't there any other types like how Maruti's get? The flaps in Maruti's I know are too small and render useless for the purpose they are built for. But still are there any alternatives?

You're right, these flaps do spoil the looks, but my dad insists that they stay on since the smaller ones don't serve the purpose. I have sparco's in my Palio, but I believe they won't suit the linea.
