Hi Virat,
For the older DI and IDI engines the additive laced diesel would work wonders I guess - but for the price. Not sure about the W124's engine.

And about the sign off - well not to worry even bottoms up would do just fine !

HG,

Congratulations to you and the Admiral!! Here's wishing many, many more miles and trouble free years with the Fortuner. Remember seeing Manuuj's post a few weeks back on his Service costs coming to 0.67 paise or so for 80,000 KM. Both your numbers and his, further validate my decision of going for the Fortuner

1. Unfortunately Monaro - ACM drew faster and squeezed the trigger !
2. And likewise it's been a great delight riding the posse with you and the grey hulk.
3. You're telling me ! It feels like just yesterday that I went and had a first look at Admiral in the yard. Since then everything seems like a blur. The drives, the meets and just about everything else. |
Not to forget the large number of friends I've made here and elsewhere - all thanks to Admiral.

Thank you very much Venkat.
I had shaky knees after booking the old boy. In terms of a real scare of having to incur such a huge initial cost, fear of the unseen maintenance costs and then the doubts over the ability drive such a levathian on the crowded alleys of Mumbai meri jaan. Time, experiences and just about everything else thereafter have proved my fears to be totally unfounded.
I hope it continues in this tenor all through - touch wood !
And as I have mentioned before...ummm...Fortune/r favours the brave !

Congratulations Admiral for the Two years of flawless service. It has been preety lazy two years for you thus far with an average of about 1500 kms per month of travel.

All this is set to change come September as plans are afoot for Bison, Obelix and you to be introduced formally on what promises to be a memorable journey to Ladakh and Kashmir!

All the best for the coming years and hope to see you in the Metal soon!

1.& 4. Thank you very much Manuuj. Yes the service has been truly amazing. Yes, sometime soon indeed.

2. Oh no. Not the first year. The first year was hardly lazy. Clocked in 20K KMs in the first year but the first few months of the first year were anything but lazy. Consider this -
5K KMs touched in - 52 days.
10K KMs touched in - 130 days.
15K KMs touched in - 186 days.
At this rate would have done 90,000 KMs in 3 years.

The second year too would have been a real kicker with that 4K KMs drive to the south in the begining of the year. But after that it just collapsed thanks to the hugely reduced daily commute distance and no major sailing since May of 2012. But yeah need to hit the roads again.

3. Bison, Obelix and Me ? Or Admiral ? Ahhh...anyway itching for that trip for years now. Hope this year at least it works out - God willing !

You sure seem to be on your way to challenge HVK's ODO reading. I think the admiral will easily last till 2L kms and beyond.

Planning to show the below post to my MASS Works Manager.

General

Back on Togo channel after a very long time. Infact was disconected from the connected world for a long time . Pardon my absence.

Congratulations on 2nd anniversary. Good things about car anniversaries are

1. You can choose to spend not a single dime to please him/her.
2. you can choose to spend some serious money and the good part is whatever you spend its going to please you..!

My 35K service is due and i have an old promise to keep... engine manual !

April 1st week.. pucca..!

Maximus sends his greetings to Admiral.

Do let me know about the Ladakh plan...

Ahoy there columbus ! Welcome back to Togo Channel.

1. Thank you very much for the good wishes.

2. That looks fine. Fair enough and this KRA of yours has been shifted to the begining of the next financial year.
But seriously speaking if we were to lay our hands on the workshop manual it will be a real boon - as many things could get very easy for us.
Firstly to direct the ASC & grease monkeys and supervise them as to what needs to be done in specific terms on the various components during the periodic service/s.
Secondly if faced with issues (touch wood - there should be none on our rides, but if...) to check whether the grease monkeys are following the correct path for the diagnosis and actions thereafter and that they aren't fooling around or taking us for a ride.
And best of all increase the component of DiYs to sort out issues ourselves instead to running across to the ASCs for minor matters and incur unnecessary bills. This would become even more critical when our vehicles glide out of the warranty period and we are not held to ransom by the ASC quoting warranty issues. We can seek help from good FNGs too to sort out slightly more tedious issues after warranty - and there again the manual would be a blessing.
So makes great sense to lay our hands on one.

3. Admiral gratefully acknowledges Maximus' greeting and semaphores back his good wishes and smooth sailing to him.

4. Sure will share the plan - soon as firmed up.

Tally ho.

Life & Admiral sail along on an even keel...or almost.

The front bumper guard or what Toyota calls a grill guard was begining to look jaded and faded.

And then came across this product yesterday at Hypercity Mall in Thane at their auto section.

It's a Pidilite product. I have been using P's products for sometime now like the dashboard rejuvenator and find them decent. So decided to pick it up for the grill guard it is any good. Costs 45 bucks a bottle/pack.

Comes in a pack of 50 ML bottle with an applicator and a polythene glove.

Tried it out today.

Had the GDW to wash and scrub the grill guard and left it to dry. After that wore the glove and applied it with the applicator. Quite easy.

Despite the glove got some on my hand/fingers.

The cover states that it is a Silicone Emulsion. Meaning almost a paint like formulation - for plastics though. Touted to restore the black colour of bumpers, trims and bedliners. It also protects the plastic it is applied on, as claimed.

I thought I was rather pleased with the end results.

Let's see how long the sheen lasts.

So those of you having this guard on your Fortuners or other folks with vehicles with black bumpers/trims, bedliners -which have faded, try out this product.

Nope, I won't be held responsible (or won't hold my self responsible or feel gut wrenchingly guilty) if you have a lousy experience with it. Try it out at your own risk and costs.
Nope, I don't work for the organisation peddling/hawking this product either (like they had a death wish !).
Nope, I haven't got couple of bottles for free trial/s and writing product reviews.

Tally ho !

Hats off for keeping such a comprehensive manual on cost accruals, service bills, et al. Always nice to see such a meticulously maintained & cared for vehicle.

It is totally amazing that for a vehicle this size and capability, the running cost is not too high. If I even begin to compare it with the Freelander 2, I should be contemplating @#$%^&*()

Great detail & always a pleasure to read !!

Cheers
