Default 100,000 miles with our Camry!

Her age just struck me when I saw the ODO showing 100,000 miles! What a journey that was!

Flash back into year 2002. We were looking for our second car. This was (I believe) our criteria:
  • Decent size (first one being a Civic)
  • Japanese (was in love with Japanese cars)
  • 0% Financing (always helps)
  • Decent looker (had almost compromised with my Civic)
We had looked at Mazda Protege, Subaru Outback Sport and some more but nothing was 'clicking'. One day someone mentioned that he has seen an advertisement on TV about 0% finance on Toyota Camry. Bingo! If that is true, we can afford a bigger car - what we really wanted.

In came the help from Google. We confirmed the finance deal - it was from Toyota (and not from dealers). Also, after looking at various models, I was sure I wanted an "SE". Here's why:
  • Disk brakes at all 4 wheels
  • 16" Rims
  • Front strut brace
  • Better interior
  • Tighter suspension
  • Blackened Headlamps
  • Leather wrapped steering and shifter
Now was the time. Had to find some leftover 2002s (it was in December). Went to the same dealer from whom I had bought my Civic. He had a car I wanted - 2002 Camry SE (I4) in Silver and that also with JBL premium audio! The one thing I did not really like was the fake wood applique on top of the silver accent. Decided to live with it!

Being a Gujju, had to fight for the price! Got the deal at $500 below dealer's invoice. And don't forget the 0% finance. Did not pay a penny and brought the car home!!

Fast forward to 2011. I used Mobile1 Oil and Mobile1 filter from the very first oil change. This was mainly her car but once I got her the new car, this was dropped into my lap. Over all, it has been a good experience. No major issues or expenses.

Things we like:
  • Space - both inside and in the trunk
  • It is a nice looking car
  • I still like the OEM rims
  • OEM ICE has kept up
  • Just works
Things we don't like:
  • It's a boat - doesn't move quickly (but that was given)
  • The cat converter started leaking air and had to be replaced ($1200)
  • The windshield has never been crystal clear
  • Wheel alignment has never been perfect
What next? I'm already looking into getting timing belt and water pump replaced. I'm going to keep this car till it dies.

Here are some pictures:

Ofcourse, it's USA's top selling sedan and in letter (not in spirit) successor to the great Cressida.
It will serve you long for years to come.
But wonder why the alignment has never been proper,
Also tried polishing the windshield?

I think the quality has been going down after they started making it in US.

I get uneven tire wear after few thousand miles of alignment. I have got the suspension checked as well. I think I have to live with it.

Tried many things on the windshield but no good results.

Hi Troublemaker,

So how's your car doing? Any new modifications? It would be great if you can share some more pictures of the beauty - travels, interiors, exteriors, etc. Would appreciate that.

Toyota Camry is one of my favorite breed of cars and my uncle in Vancouver too, owns one. Wish you many more happy miles in this limo.
