For me, its gonna be the Beemer! but then, u gotta see which brand will give u good After Sales Service too. Mercedes is in India for a good time now, and their dealer network is good. while AUDI and BMW in only a couple or 3 cities.

The BMW 530i sure seems a great buy, and mite, did u check with Navneer Motors? a few days back i enquired for the 3 Series, and he said they launched only the 5,6,&7 series yet in india. and 3 Series will come in 2007.

The Audi A6 is a good car to drive even thought its a FWD . The V6 has adequate power too. The dashboard is a bit disappoiting but Audis MMI is very easy to use. You cant go wrong with the Audi.

If you are looking at the Beemer why dont you take a look at the diesel version. Its fun to drive and has a great torquey engine.

Merc is out for me from the beginning. They are too common

So choose between the two

Thanks for the reply guys.
In terms of VFM i guess the E comes out a winner as the E280 is gonna replace the 270cdi without a price hike. I am not sure how much the 530i or 530d would cost in mumbai but I am sure its 45+ since the Audi itself is close to 44. I am not sure if it really makes sense for me to import a 5 series now when it will be available locally within a year for a much lesser price tag.

Drive all three. The one that makes you feel good is the one you should buy. When you are spending so much money, you should also consider some points. Mercs are very common in Mumbai and that makes them boring to look at. Even then, they are winners when it comes to status. Also remember, Mercedes Benz has a much wider spread dealer and service network than the other two. The 5 Series and my favourite, the A6 are very good cars too. It's just that they don't have as many advantages as the E Class.

Dipen, thnks for the info but if you dont mind me asking, where did u get the figures from coz i think they r on the higher side.
The E280 is 41 lakhs ex-showroom... I am intrested only in the ex showroom price as we dont pay octorio as we register it in thane and also insurance is going to be transferred from the previous cars policy.
The A6 price is 44 lakhs as per the Audi showroom in bombay. Not sure for which engine type but i think its the 3.2
Have no clue abt the 5 series pricing.

If not getting a quattro then BMW is a better buy. An Audi without a quattro is a Skoda RS without at Turbo.

Dev, Whats the use of having quattro in Bombay? It will only end up increasing the price of the car with hardly any tangable benefit in real world driving conditions. Why pay a couple of thousands more just to have the quattro on the car's trunk?

Sahil, I am a big BMW fan but the car, I believe, will be used mainly by your dad and probably will be chauffer driven? The bangle designed BMW is not to everyone's liking. Let your dad take a very good look at the BMW and let him decide if he really likes the design. The Audi and Merc designs are more traditional and likeable by elder executive types. Also, if the car is going to be mainly chauffer driven then it really makes no sense to buy the ultimate driving machine. All the cars are brilliant. It's a tough choice. Go for the Audi if you want a change from the Mercedes. Don't bother with what people think. Go for BMW if your dad likes the design and drives himself. Again he has to love driving to appreciate the BMW.

Amit...Thnx for the reply. Yes the car will be used by my dad mainly as I am studying abroad. But I will be using it alot when I am in bombay too. For daily traffic driving my driver will be driving it but my dad also likes to drive and he enjoys a good car so performance and smoothness mainly is major factor. But i am not sure if its worth paying 5-10 lakhs more for the beamer.Tho thats my fav choice too if it were available locally.

Leave the Merc alone. Try to get the BMW for a day too like the Audi and then decide between the two.

I would take the Beemer.

AUDI, anyday. The marquee is on the ascendence just as the Beemer were against the Mercs in the 90s.

This is my personal opinion - given a choice between the two I'd plonk my moolah on the 4 rings. Every new Audi feels a cut above equivalent cars from the other marquees. I am not talking engines here - I am talking cars.

I beg to disagree. Quottro may be one of the better known technology brands to come from the marquee, but this is not Audi's sold USP. The Quottro has its uses, but I having AWD on a normal roadcar is a technological overkill. The comparison to Skoda is wrong - the Skoda RS without the Turbo is a banana, which is not the case with the A6.
