Default Landi Renzo CNG & LPG Kits soon to be manufactured in India

Auto interiors manufacturer Krishna Group has announced a joint venture (JV) project with Landi Renzo SpA, an Italian company specialising in CNG fuel components. Landi Renzo has more than 30% market share worldwide for LPG and CNG alternative fuel components.

The Rs 60-crore JV will manufacture LPG and CNG kits at Manesar, Gurgaon. Krishna Group is a Joint Venture Company of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, Maruti Udyog Limited and a private firm.

CNG & LPG are slowly gaining in popularity, thanks to rising petrol prices. Major car manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and General Motors have dual petrol cum CNG cars on sale. The majority of public transport in metros like Delhi and Mumbai also run on CNG. Besides its low costs, these alternative fuels are significantly environment-friendly.

Still, the overall penetration levels of these two fuels in the private car sector remains at dismal levels. A recent media report suggested that Delhi car owners are increasingly turning to diesel cars instead of CNG. One reason could be that CNG price has almost doubled up in the last two years against diesel price. Diesel is more readily available, without having to wait in long queues. Also, CNG has limited availability across the country. Then, there is the matter of losing boot capacity.

Wow! A 100% favour for CNG! Interesting.

I hope the CNG kits become cheaper, safer and more reliable due to this move. The main problem has always been depending on outside dealers for the conversion, so making it a very risky proposition. Hopefully the situation will improve slowly, with this move and that Gujarat may become CNG-only state.

Of course the Diesel or CNG battle will go on for ever!

This just builds a new hope

I was surprised too - but then i guess mostly CNG enthusiasts will come to this thread and see the poll... people who swear against CNG would just go seeing the thread title and give it a pass! So there's some bias in the polling!
