I am using 'Torq' brand reverse parking sensors and camera in my Wagon R. It is working fine in rain and dark in night without issues. It costs me about Rs10,000/-. It is a snap on type on the rearview mirror.

Sir,

Spot on! It took good 10 mins for an Autocop engineer to identify the problem and yourself sitting hundred miles away could identify it so easily. Hats off to your sheer knowledge and experience sir!

He just rotated the sir and the problem was solved.

Many thanks for your kind inputs.

Default Re: Reverse camera or Sensor ?

I am looking for a combination unit of reverse camera + reverse sensors for my Dad's new Swift.

He's pretty keen on the sensors but I want him to have the camera too, as an additional aid while reversing.

My accessory guy showed me a Xenos kit comprising of 3 items - Camera + Sensors set + TFT display (mounted on IRVM) - for Rs. 11,000/-. Upon my inquiring if the display will show both camera feed AND reversing distance, he was clueless. I am thinking it might be compatible with either/or, not both.

Does such a display/complete reversing set exist which shows both - the reverse camera feed and the sensors' readout of the distance behind? If yes, which company and what price?

Thanks in advance, guys.

Normally it happens that reverse camera shows the view and sensors show the distance on the same display unit. The small speaker on the rear says the distance also. Probably this sound can be muted. Hope Xenos kit also acts like this.

I would like to know that when we fit these irvm's on our existing irvm's do we loose the day night capability of our oem mirrors .
My Honda sa told me they use the torq brand of reverse sensors for the amaze when they are fitted at the dealer's end .

Yes, Anky, you will loose the day night capabilities, because your original IRVM is used no more. A separate glossy, tinted snap on type mirror will be fitted on your original mirror. I'm using Torq and it is good one in my opinion.

Apart from the day and night facility, I am told that these snap on mirrors also vibrate and make noise due to the fittings. I do not want to live with an IRVM with a shaking image so looking for a dash mounted solution.

**I had the same dilemma some months back - sensor only or sensor+cam. Couldn't decide either way and here I am after 6 months, completely comfortable craning my neck every time I reverse. Though, I did get a rear door mirror (like the one seen on the Endy) just to be sure am not reversing into a ditch or something!

hi guys,
just two small questions - I'm planning on getting one of the Xenos reverse sensors installed into my car.

1. I want one where the display is at the rear of the car and I can see it in the mirror. Which means that the display is actually mirror image. Most of the sensors that I see are intended to be placed on the dashboard (which I dont like). My question is that whether this feature is standard on all sensors or are there special "inverted sensors" ?

2. I have a dark grey (almost bluish) i20. How do I get the color match ... or is it something that can be painted later ?

I am planning to get a rear view cam on my 3-year old Innova VX. It already has sensors, but somehow I feel uncomfortable relying only on the 'beeps'. I am mostly worried about small kids / pets behind the car when I reverse - I need a cam that looks down too!

Ideally, I would not like to tamper with the existing (OEM) reversing sensors - I would like to use the cam as an additional device and connect it to the ICE system.

Any suggestions / comments?

Xenos - be careful. Their HID ballasts are known to be about the worst. In my Honda Civic and Brio the reversing sensors feed to beepers and there is no visual display whatsoever.

I have a Volkswagen Polo and have been thinking about installing a reverse camera for some time now. I have largely three options:

1.Swap the HU with an RCD510 and get a reverse display for it.

2.Buy an aftermarket touchscreen HU(Pioneer,Clarion, etc) and get a camera for it.

3. Get only a reverse camera display mounted on the IRVM.

Option 1 no doubt would look the most professional, but then it is equally expensive. I don't mind changing the HU, so long as there is additional value in doing so( better sound quality, etc). Most accesory shops near my area seem to only have a very basic IRVM mounted camera which is sans the parking guidelines. I doubt that will be much help, but the cost benefit works in its favour. The size of the IRVM with camera display (Brand WorldTech)looks the size of an elephants foot though, and I'm not sure I like that.

So what is your say?

If you are thinking about RCD 510, you can also look at VW approved units like the Philadelphia 835 or dynavin. In addition to reverse camera support you will get features like navigation and ability to play DVDs and video via USB.

Having said that, although I have a reverse cam in my vento, most of the time I rely on the sensors only.

Well, I was in the same dilemma when I bought the car. The cost factor of changing the HU swayed my decision. If you are keen and have a hear for music at its best, you could opt for a better HU, with other features like navigation included.
I opted for the IRVM mounted reverse camera. Though I was used to the sensors it does help in tight spots. And yeah, the display I have does not measure as you said, but beats the OEM one. As a matter of fact was not shopping for a reverse camera, but saw one on the display vehicles and went for it. Alas, don't know the brand, but could check and advise if you see keen.
