I own a palio 1.2 petrol which i purchased 4 yrs back, is it possible for me to replace the engine with a diesel engine? would it improve the FE, what would it cost on an average?

its better to sell off the current palio as the engine swap will cost you a lot as you will even have to stiffen your suspension,probably purchase the one which is available with the paio 1.9D,.change the transmission. etc.on top of it,there will always be some technical issues as the work carried out may not be satisfactory.
if selling the car is not an option,then you can fit a lpg or cng kit.it will work out cheaper than diesel and the kit will also cost less than the engine swap.

As everyone suggested... go for a used Palio D rather than going for a swap. It involves a hell lot of changes and its better to go for a car swap to avoid the hassles.

Let me tell you something;
Sell your petrol Palio. Get yourself a nice Palio D. If you go for a conversion, it'll cause more trouble than any help. I had converted a Maruti 1000 to diesel and sold it for nothing. It was running like a tractor more than a car. Maybe the job wasn't right, but it was what it was!

There is only TATA Turbo Diesel or Regular model. XETA are the Petrol and CNG varient, The replacement to the Lsi series.
You could look at Fiesta D, Accent CRDI,Lancer D, for a little bit more on the price range. and Lastly you could also consider the New Safari ( Not Dicor) the revamped one its about a Lakh more than your range, But its an SUV...!

my opinion would be to go for the indiaca cng.it will give u a good efficiency and will save you the hassles of owning a diesel car(indica diesel can be unpredictable)

Hi,

The best option for you would be to swap with a 1.6 Palio engine though it would be abit expensive to procure. Also please remember to open the engine at a competant mechanic and have the health checked else overhaul before installation.

There are other ways by which you can increase the power of your existing engine as well like adding the following

1> Free Flow with Headers
2> K&N/Ractive Conical Filter
3> Iridium Plugs
4> Porting/Polishing
5> Throttle Body Enlargement

The above 5 mods should get you a gain of approx 15-20% easily.
