| Senior - BHPian | I had converted to the Philips Rallye 100/90W in December with proper relay, wiring and holders. Recently the high beam of the right headlight blew off. I have heard the bulbs are pretty reliable. What would have made them blow so fast? What do I need to check?

| I am running on 100W/130W philip rally bulbs with the proper ceramic holders and wiring kit for the past three years without a single change on my Alto Lxi with no probelms what so ever... maybe you should suspect the authenticity of the bulbs that you got ... I have even added the same setup to my New Verna CRdi ! and no problems till now , got the installation done from Trivadrum , shop called Car Palace. |

| Senior - BHPian | I was just going through the Philips Crystal Vision Review and TSK clearly mentioned there that getting 100/90W with relay u have to be careful. As they will blow easily. So its better to stick to 60/50W...

| Senior - BHPian | We upgraded stock Osram 55/60W H1 and H7 bulbs to 100W H1 and 80W H7 on Determinus' GTX. The dealer said that we do not require a relay since it works well without it. I would like you guys to suggest if we should still insist on a relay?

| Team-BHP Support ![]() | High power bulbs blow due to these reasons 1. Fake Bulbs : This affects philips since its the most common bulb, so buy from a reliable shop. 2. High low together : Many cars let you use high low beams together, by pulling the stalk towards you when on low beam. For 60/55W it is okay, for 100/90W you can blow a bulb. 3. Alternator fault : Is your alternator giving over voltage. Check at the headlamp terminals. Disconnect the bulb, switch on and then put a voltmeter, should not go above 12.5 or so, but this is usually not the cause, happens in extreme cases as most bulbs have slight overvoltage tolerance built in, if they are of good quality

| That is really an eye opener to me. I never knew that by pulling the liver towards us will glow low and high beam together. Actually I dont do myself. I allways toggle. But this friend of mine does that often. |

| Senior - BHPian | I guess for a very short period of say a couple of seconds this will not be an issue? And some cars like the Palio have separate High and Low bulbs and this won't affect them. Problem is when the high & low are in the same unit?
