With the problems I mentioned above, I replaced the bulb few days ago and was shocked to see the condition. What the heck is this? ![]() ![]() ![]()

| BHPian | Ankit, You have mentioned that electrics are all good so won't go down that route. During installation did anyone touch the bulb glass with bare hands? Even if touched was it cleaned with alcohol thereafter? Touching with hands may have caused a 'weak spot' on the bulb which ultimately caused it to catastrophically release the halogen gas contained in it.

| BHPian | Wow! I've never ever seen a bulb that has a bulge like this.. Looks eerie too. Btw, is it possible for the Ikon's headlights to manage 100/130w bulbs with Roots relay and ceramic holders? cya A

| it can be a misfit for that particular model of reflector also (thinking out loud)

Many mechanics touch the bulb while installing with greasy hands. Thats enough to cause a failure. Infact such a bulb will definitely fail, its just a question of when.

| BHPian | Hmmm.. Leaves me with more confusion. First, I installed the bulbs on my own, and I did not touch them at all.(Unless they were touched by someone else before being sold). Second, my sources for spares are never wrong, so I strongly disagree about the bulbs being fake. Can moisture cause this? I noticed that there is a small hole (half inch dia) on the top of the headlight assembly which could have led to this? ![]() When the low beam blew first, I used the headlights on highbeam for a long time before it failed too. But the other bulb is working well.

Most shops just connect a multimeter to the alternator and check the voltage. Sometimes the regulator has a problem that for short periods it spiked the voltage to 15-16V for a short time. Since you have a relay etc., you get the full voltage for that short time. Since your low beam is blowing, which is a very rare case and you are having multiple failures, it points to electricals. I suggest connect a multimeter to the battery terminals and watch the voltage. While doing that rev the engine, play around with the lights, AC etc., and see if you have voltage crossing the 13.8 or something mark.

. and also the bulge is in the place where the tiny reflector in the bulb is pointing.
