Enough nice things said about brotherhood in the tuner market.
Now can someone provide more updates on the car and the B16 ?

Hi,

What would you like to know about the car. It is currently waiting for a wiring harness expected this weekend following which it should take 2-3 days to install and get on the road.

Ohh, I guess you got that wrong. I surely know about the B16 in the car. What I meant was, when will the car be back and a detailed report soon when its on the road in its full glory.

Hi,

The cost of the bare motor and its accessories is approx Rs1 lac add to that the following:
1> Freight cost will vary dpeneding on whether you choose sea or air. Approx weight 300kgs
2> Customs Duty@36% + Penalty(50-200%) + Octroi 5.5% + Clearing Agent charges
3> Cost of overhaul(not compulsory but recommended) will very from 30k-50k
4> Cost of new mounts + bushes + hose pipes
5> Installation costs including wiring depends from person to person (min 20-25k)
6> New Exhaust + air filter + plugs
7> Consumables like engine oil, gear oil, coolant etc.

The above is what goes into installing the basic swap. Now add modding it further like SS Exhaust + performance clutch, port polish, high lift cams(springs, valves, retainers, cam gears), underdrive pulleys, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, Stand Alone or Piggy Back Fuel Management.

Hope this gives you a rough idea.

Hi,

You are legally not allowed to import used engines. You can however import brand new engines but the cost will be crazy so you will have to penalty. How much depends on the bargaining power(read under the table) with the Asst.Commissioner. I had listed out the official expenses there are un official expenses involved as well at the customs and octroi dept.

If you do not agree to pay the fine customs have the right to confiscate the engine.

Penalty is basically a fine. It is the charge levied by the customs for bringing in items not allowed to be imported. Actually it is even levied on second hand cars.
So there is no way around it. You will have to have to pay fine and penalty. Fine & Penalty for bringing in the banned item. I guess they have a thumb rule in their black book or some other kinds of formulae to calculate that.

some more info required-

so you mean to say that we're allowed to import new engines.that means crate engines.right.

how much is the duty on a new engine and what other charges will have to be paid to import a brand new crate engine.

My query is a little out of context sorry for raiding this thread but thought its appropriate for the recent post of importing engines.

Wanted to know how much would it cost for a used Mivec and how much for installation of the same.

Hi,

New as in from manufacturer or dealer supported with their bill. Not sure of the duty and all other expenses should be the same as mentioned below. Yo can subtract the penalty amt.

Quite high if you ask me. Though you'd surely know more than me. I just googled for JDM engines and the B16 range comes in for anywhere between $800 to $1499 and at the current dollar rate it is barely 50-60k?

@MF depends on where your importing from and the condition of the engine.

You got to visit some of these warehouses in Malay/Thailand and see the amount of stuff they have lying around.

It all depends on what engine you are getting down. Your link points to B16A1 engine. I was referring to a B16A2 giving link from the same site you referred.

At the end of the day it all depends on who you buy fro and how reliable the supplier and the condition of the engine. I had given a broad indication. You can get scrap yard engines cheaper in Bangkok, Malaysia etc with no guarantee on the condition.

I gave a approx price of what I paid(for B16A2) as I have full faith in my supplier and the engines he supplies. Better to buy from a known source is what I believe in.
