Hi,

now this is even more confusing! Has he given you a different model of the ECU?

I know of several Vtec's having his ECU's (white in color) which work perfectly fine and the Vtec also engages!

Cheers,
Shrey

I hope Im not going OT on this thread because we are still discussing B series engines and why they should be kept hi revving.

Person buying a si with a b16 or a teg with a b18 is not interested in low end torque at all.
Typical customer for a B series guy is someone who wants absolute hard revving engine.
Its like saying why doesn't Harley Davidson make 10,000 rpm hi revving 4 cylinder engines ?
Answer to that is - its meant for a different audience who want a lazy easy going cruiser, same with B series engines - anyone who wants low end torque should go for a different car, there are plenty out there.

Its absolutely funny that you are looking for low end torque in a Jap tuner engine and explain to us how Vtec should be programmed ?
Why dont you look somewhere else for lazier engines ?

If you are having problems on a freeway overtaking a truck with the vtec engaged at 7000 rpm you are driving the wrong car or not driving it right.

You should be driving a 4 litre 6 cylinder mustang...leave the Honda engines to those freaks who love hi revving engines.
Nothing more to say.

plus you will get your best vtec shift point, where torque from low speed cam starts falling & high speed cam increasing both the graph(torque curve) will come to an interception point, thats where you set your Vtec.
Thats a good suggestion Jitu and worth trying.

Honda's VTEC is so much overrated that I don't even wanna talk about it any more.

Anyway as an example, take BMW's new 5L V10 with the VANOS (BMW's version of VTEC) system. The peak power output is 507 bhp and the redline is 8250 rpm. They achieve their peak torque of 520 Nm @ 6100 rpm, but the VANOS is programmed in such a way that you get about 450 Nm at 3500 rpm, and in the rev range of 3500-5500 rpm 80% of the torque is still available and keeps increasing till you hit 6100.

So what I meant to say is that the VTEC can be programmed at different engine speeds to achieve the optimum torque output without sacrificing higher end power to a certain extent, something which was being discussed in some of the previous posts.

Also keep in mind that having a close ratio gearbox is gonna make you run out of engine speed in the higher gears thereby affecting top speed as the engine might not have enough power (or revs) left to counter the drag forces at such speeds (as drag increases significantly with velocity) .

Note from Mod : Lets not go too much into a debate of the worth of VTEC in vipers build thread. There are other threads which you can continue this discussion in. Thanks.

@rehaan : Why not make a new thread from where the off topic posts started. Then we can discuss this without affecting the original topic.

Hi,

Just got myself a HKS Type-0 Turbo Timer, Set of 3 Autometer Sports Comp series guages (Oil Temp, Boost/Vaccum & Water Temp) size 2 5/8th and my long overdue Red Exhaust wraps.

This was a kind of a birthday present to myself Now I need the time to go and get these installed.

Wow. That looks delicious.
You did say Red wrap, cant see the colour from the pic you posted.
Could you post a pic from another angle, of the wrap so we can see the colour clearly?

Default Update

Hi Guys,

Its been a while since I updated this thread. Had installed the guages, Red Exhaust wraps & turbo timer a while back but somehow did not get the time to upload pics.

Had also sent the car for a long overdue paint touch up and polishing and have swapped back to my OE bonnet for the monsoons. Attaching below some pics of the same. Sorry for the bad quality as taken from my phone cam.

The car is currently running on the stock Cams with Vtec still not on.

Viper, I think your cars gonna end up being more rev happy, if the cams go aggressive, for a daily drive i wouldn't advise on changing the cam to any particular race spec.
I'm sure with the other cam you'll notice a roughness on idle.and thats one thing I know you cant stand.

Micky,

Will be reverting back to my Comp Cams dayafter. No fun driving on stock cams.
