I would like you folks to always stand by your cars when you get work done at Automech. I brought down my friends Palio 1.6 to get a FFE fitted. They messed up with the power steering mechanism somehow resulting in a failed PS. When I requested them to check the car since I had to drive back to Pune, they refused to take responsibility. They have left a lot of scratches on the car and I will not ever return to Automech ever again!! I will post a detailed review with pictures soon.

Who did u deal with there.. You should have spoken to Ajay.. Was a situation of failure because of other causes.. Becoz i doubt any FFE work could have any relation with the PS.. The place where these people work for the FFE isnt really close to any PS components.. Scratches can happen tho.. because the place where they work is really small..

I dealt with Vivek who is a reluctant person when it comes to customer service. He only came in picture to collect money from me and for nothing else. It could not be because of other causes because I drove in with a working powersteering.
Even I doubt whether their work could have affected the PS assembly but in the Palio, the headers are near the firewall and requires a lot of opening to be done on the engine cover. The pump resides on the mounting same as the engine cover which was removed. The careless mechanics have messed up something for sure while I was away for lunch.
To describe the problem in detail: The pump works while the car is on idle and the belt is spinning the pulley properly. As soon as I try to steer, the pulley stops rotating with a screeching (like rubber on rubber noise) halt. Any leads on what our dear Automech guys have messed with?

moralfibre: Looks like they just forgot to tighten the power steering belt.

Your case is a replica of stories I'd heard before I installed my exhaust, which is why I went to another vendor.

I wish John did Bush's head. Bush would have been a better person for that (dont know about smarter though).

BTW John died in Ponoma in Dec 2003. RIP John.

Bliss is driving a Lingefeltered 1969 small-block (350 in³ - 5.7 L) Stingray along the PCH.

BTW, Elf how did you even know the name?

No more Automech recommendation from me. I always thought they were amongst the best in business but from my personal experience I feel they are worst! Even a layman wouldn't do that to his business.

Methinks even NH4 would do. As would the Z06 massaged by him.

Duh! This is allegedly a car forum, & I am ostensibly a car enthusiast.

Also, I study pop Americana when I feel like. Something like watching guinea pigs or hamsters in their cage. And have bought (newsstand, not subscription) Car&Driver (fun), Road&Track (OK), Automobile (too faffish) & Motor Trend (complete semi-porn also ran) every month in my misspent & misguided youth. Now, of course, I can't be bothered.

How do you know John Lingenfelter?

With Palios, I think there is a rule that if you keep the steering turned fully to the end and hold it there for 15-20 seconds, the pressure building up inside can damage the Power steering set up. Do you think they did something like that?
Just some bookish theoritical knowledge.

Nope Prabhuddhadg, they did not do anything like that. And I think the pressure doesn't build up in the pump by doing this. There is a nozzle/valve to release this pressure that is built up.

Nope V-16. As far as I know, KS subcontracts his exhaust work to viper's guy.

I saw his car at viper's guy about 8 months back, if it solves the mystery.
