Didn't know this. Thought all the 1.6 engines in the Palio were the Torque ones.

Can you tell me the differences in bore/stroke, power etc? Thanks!

Smile 1.2 palio 1.2 nv

there are some differences
old palio 1.2 has 4-2-1 manifold header units before cat. in nv the cat con is fitted immediately after the ex manifold
the ecu progamme is different ,oldies have d8 where nv has d9 series
the shift of power mode is earlier in old palios than the nv so power delivery<should we say torque > is better in oldies, the a/c function is different in nv,
blower is different in nv
so even though the power and torque values are same for both the engines. the fashin in which they actually deliver on road are worlds apart !

Maybe you are referring to the rally-spec Super 2000 Punto Abarth, which puts out 280 bhp from a 2000cc mill, which is actually borrowed from the Alfa 156 WTCC car.

The highest specific output for any 1.6 litre engine is 200 bhp, on the old Nissan Pulsar/Sunny GTi-R.

Please stick to facts and figures, and make sure they are true. Otherwise I will be forced to bring in my 6 litre Hemi-powered Alto which gives me 38 kmpl.
TURBOSAM, since you have put in an appearance, how about answering my question?

v1p3r, you got me wrong there. Both 1580 and 1596 cc engines belong to the 'Torque' family.

Here are the details/differences in bore/stroke between the two engines;-

FIAT 1596 CC 'Torque' engine-
bore X stroke - 80.50mm X 78.40mm
3.17in X 3.09in
Bore/Stroke Ratio - 1.03
Compression Ratio - 9.50 : 1
Fuel System- Magneti Mareli WENT W 59FB fuel injection
ECU - 32 Bit IAW 4EF EURO 3 - EOBD

FIAT 1580 CC 'Torque' engine -
Bore X Stroke - 86.40mm × 67.46mm
3.4 in × 2.66 in
Bore/Stroke ratio - 1.28
Compression Ratio - 9.30 : 1
Fuel System - Magneti-Marelli SMPFi
ECU - IAW - 1ABB92

Both are 16 valve DOHC units
Maximum Torque for both cars remained the same-
14 kgm / 137NM @ 4250 rpm
Max Power for the 1596 CC engine is 100 PS/98bhp @ 5500 rpm
Max Power for the 1580 CC engine is 98PS/approx 96 bhp @ 5500 rpm

I googled the info for the 1580CC engine. So TURBOSAM, please correct me if I've given any wrong info

So which one is it? 9.5 or 10.5?

TURBOSAM, quit fooling around. I asked you a question about your imaginary 270+ bhp 1.6 litre. Be a man and answer it. Or quit pretending to be a Fiat know-it-all. Because as of now, your track record is pretty pathetic.

Does that mean we can extract 272+bhp from a 1.6 Palio by varying CAM timing?
If yes, how can this be done. I am personally not interested in cosmetic changes... I would like more information towards actual performance changes

My manual says 9.5, TURBOSAM says 10.5! Hmm,my car manual is fooling around I guess.

Same goes for the BHP and torque figures.TURBOSAM,are those engine specs for the 1596 CC engine sold in India?I dont think so.
