2750 is a highway robbery.
Getz support only pin type gear lock and I infered from another post that it is expensive compared to U type. I checked Xenos website for the vehicle compatibility.
The advantages of pin type are:
1. Does not affect aesthetics and space near the gear box. I use the trays/ cup holders frequently while driving and I do not prefer the gear lock there.
2. The gear lock works in any gear you leave the vehicle.

Want to put a gear lock on my car (Getz Prime),
1. any suggestions on good brands to use
2. Also, will such drilling void my Hyundai warranty?
3. My Getz comes with an in-built steering lock, is this good enough. Or will an external steering lock help further?
The type of gear lock depends on the vehicle. Vehicles support either U type or pin type. Check Xenos website for vehicle compaibility.

I own a Getx prime 1.3 and I believe the steering lock you have mentioned is the inbuilt lock which locks the steering when the vehicle is off. That is there with every vehicle and is of no use once the vehicle is switched on by the thief. I bought a manual steering lock which is an iron rod that is locked around the steering and the clutch pedal. It costs only 200 Rs and is good, but not convenient. I would use it as an additional safety measure when I go on holidays.

It was not an easy experience. Saturday, I called Autoworld in J.C Road and they told me to come to their shop at 11:30. As I had time, I went to Madhus Tyre Centre in Double Road for wheel allignment. Then I got call from Xenos that courier has not arrived and Gear Lock cannot be delivered. I negotiated and he commited to install it at home, eventhough they do not do it. Next weekend Xenos guys came for installation.

They assured me that installation is no big deal and it will take 1 hr.But it went on for around 2 hrs and I could make out that they were not experienced with installation.
They had to remove the big plastic panel covering gear box extending from the dashboard to the back seat. Lot of screws to be removed and they did not have the sufficient tools. Fix the gear lock for inserting pin in the between the gear slots and screw the gear lock from under the chasis.
It was not a neat job as the box is not fitted properly into the slot they have cut on the plastic panel. Also the seat screw is hitting the box and cannot be locked easily.
I dont mind and did not shot at them as the box is on the side of the gear box and is not noticeable. It does not affect aesthetics Only visible part is pinholder to hold the pin and it looks good with Xenos written on the top. Will post a picture of it tonight.

I can lock the gear in any gear by just installing the pin. There is a key for unlocking the pin. Easy to use and gives extra protection.

It costs Rs.2500 + 250 for installation. Its a pin type and it does not affect the aesthetics, can lock in any gear and easy to operate.

The phone number of Auto World guy is 9945808938. It would be better to go to Auto World than getting it installed from Xenos guys as I found them inexperienced with installation.

No yaar. After checking some shops in J.C road for gear lock I had given up hope of getting gear lock. The Autocop guy who came to service my car security system told me to check out Auto World. Auto World had only Xenos and I went for it.
No idea about Minda. Xenos and Autocop seem to be good.

I called Autoworld (Siddique). He asked me to give a call
a day before installation. So Probably this Saturday I might
get it done for my ZEN LXi. From his conversation it seems that
the price for the lock varies from car to car.

Dude opens his shack at around 11am it seems.
Ramki, See you there then, and ask for a group discount!

Its better to make sure that he has the gear lock in hand before you start from home as he intends to get the gear lock from Xenos on the day of installation. In my case, Xenos did not get the courier and I had to return home.
Yes, the price varies according to the vehicle.

Xenos website has the list of vehicle compatibility for U type/ pin type. A vehicle can be either U type or pin type compatible.
Xenos Technologies Ltd.

So what's the cost of a (U-type, I presume) Xenos gear lock for the old Zen? The website doesn't mention any indicative prices.

@prince,
Have you installed the Gear lock? Can we have some pics. How about the warranty?
I called him(siddique) today and he said the same 2750/-(incl. installation charges) for U-type Xenos Gearlock. I couldn't come on Saturday as i had some work. He said to call him on Wednesday.

Ramki.
I called up the dude on Friday evening itself!
He told me that he has no stock with him.
He'd lemme know once he gets it, in a week.
I was surprised that not many people or accessories
shops know about a gear lock in Bangalore. In Delhi
and Northern India its as famous as a HU !!

I hope this fact helps Bangalorieans in the their favour,
as less thieves will know how to deal with it !
Imagine,
one dark night,
2 thugs,
Disable Autocop,
cut through the steering lock (dunno how),
insert duplicate key,
start ignition (w/o immobilizer i.e.) and WT*,
Gear knob won't budge,
Scratch head/tear hair.
Leave.
