I doubt they will sell the mat. If you have some contacts with some Tata showroom, you can buy the mat.
If you have some friend with a 2002 late - 2003 early DLX indica, check out the plastic noise reduction engine cover Tata sells. It fits snugly over the engine head leaving around 2cm of space below it. That period DLX's sound quieter than my DLS indica due to this additional contraption.
If you find the underhood damping mat too small, you can get the one which fits on safari. Its thicker and does a better job in muting the any kind of sound from engine bay.

That under-bonnet insulation matt is sold by Skoda for Rs.800. Should be a better fit for the Lancer.

Why flamed? The entire Team-BHP knows that the Lancer is a far superior, more solid and much faster car than the OHC. Dont worry, nobody will discuss the obvious.

Chal now I'll go.

Why is it that they cant sell a damn mat ? What is so proprietory about a mat ?

Elf, looks like you need a lot of stealth to enter a TATA showroom. I would advice you to wear sherlock holmes' outfit & prowl in the night & please leave dr.watson at home. I think it is best to steal the mat after all since it is not for sale.

And what was that about the lancer not being good enough for the Vtec ? Thats ok, next time, I am sure you will find a vtec.

E_L, I found a VTEC. Three of them, in fact. Just didn't want it. Too tinny for my taste.

Cant argue with that; I bought a brand new Lancer over the OHC and the Baleno in Y2000. The Lancer simply has a feel-good factor that the other two cannot match. That and the driving position + handling + steering is to die for. Beautiful car then, that still looks good today.
