Default 130 BHP Palio 1.2 - A Dream For me!

Guys I was going through an interesting mod job on a Fiat Panda done by Abarth after their return to business. They produced two interesting cars one is the Grande Punto Scorpion and a Fiat Panda KIT. More about this can be read here:

Return of the Scorpion

I stumbled upon the spec sheet of the kitted Panda and something interesting struck me. The specs of the engine tuned to 130 BHP is exactly the same as the Palio 1.2 sold in the Indian market. See the PDF in the link below for details:

Panda 1.2

Palio 1.2 Indian specs

So much from a 1.2 engine! I am impressed. Only difference is Transmission, Suspension?, Brakes, Wheels, Car Body.

Last I heard that a 1.2 was sold for a meager Rs. 80,000 in good shape and this isn't a myth. A team-bhpian from Pune sold his non-PS car for that price.

Anyone interested in Palio 1.2 mods to make a 1.6 beater? This sure will be fun without FI and revving to 7,800 RPM.

Interesting!

Let's forget about Transmission, Suspension?, Brakes etc. But no info on the engine mods?

On second thought, why 1.2? If anyone is planning plan it on 1.6. Hell, no info on what they have done to the engine.

Someone familiar with Fiats in India should give a serious thought abt opening a Fiat Palio-specific modding/tuning business.

Wont the gear ratio's also be different? If it needs to be able to pull 130Bhp.

I am sure game to convert my 1.2...

Hmm. Interesting! 130 horses from a 1.2 litre 8 valve engine is really impressive. If you ask me, Fiat should re badge itself as Abarth in India

The spares will bleed the modder dry, dude.
Thats the only reason japs are preferred while modding.

Brings us to the inevitable question in India.
"mileage kya hai bhai?"

@Moralfibre? 1.2 and 1.6 engines are similar, right? Can't the same be done to the 1.6?

They are NOT at all similar. See the specs in the first link for details of a 1.2 and then search on the page or my gallery for 1.6 specs.

I think the first thing you will need is a stand alone ECU. And the internals which can stand 7000+ rpm.

P.S. - I am not an expert or even close to one. I am just guessing.

Well... Its little complicated . I am a mechanical engineer but working in IT for nearly 5 yrs. But the software I am working on is a diagnostic software for Cummins diesel engines. So you can say I am still pretty close to automobile field.
