Jiggs!
I think it is best to stick with the Alto/WagonR 1.1ltr engine rather than going for the old Zen's 1ltr engine.

Are you sure, a 1ltr engine will not fit in? How about a small firewall modification?

My choices would be

1. 800/old Matiz - best
2. WagonR/Zen - would surprise
3. Palio/esteem - try it, if crazy about speed

I still feel should try with Palio 1.2 engine. looks like the car can take it but really dont know

cant you install a swift's engine in that car...Iam sorry i dont know about the dimensions so plz dont mind...But if it can then its gonna be a good choice of engine, but dont forget the average as swift is lower than the other options you are looking at...

It's not as simple as just popping another engine in...you need the correct mounts and see if the transmission is compatible. I would suggest sourcing the same engine, or find the right mounts or fabricate the mounts suitable for the new engine you pick...also considering the beat engine revs fairly high, it probably wouldn't feel the same with any local engine.
