| Senior - BHPian | As the thread title mentions there are many ways of getting additional power. But what would you choose? Turbo: One of the most exciting and complicated ways to get additional power. The turbo whine and the BOV whistle is to die for. The push you get away from the steering when the turbo kicks in is something I wanted all my life. Based on the boost, power increase may vary from 30bhp (8psi) to twice the stock power (@ 1 bar). Costs generally lie between 1.5L to 5L depending on requirement and engine specification. NOS: One of the easier ways to achieve larger gains in BHP. Can be put to almost any car. Easy to install, provided you know the jet sizes and the maximum allowable shot on your engine. Its easy to overcook it and blow your engine otherwise. Engine internals will take a beating. Also, best bang for the buck going by the cost per bhp to rupee ratio. Though care has to be taken that the bottle temperatures are maintained. Engine Swaps: A trend that goes back a number of years. Started off popularly with the swapping of esteem engines into zens. Now you can have e-zens, b-zens, zondas, OHC with B16s, Lancers with Mivec et all. But what about other cars which do not have an option for further engine upgrade? If you get a good engine, get it installed from a reputed tuner who knows how to fabricate custom mounts and to troubleshoot any kind of problems that may occur. The tremendous PTWR works wonders in such builds. High Compression NA build: Involves bumping up of compression to get the additional power. Basically all the mods that can pull out every ounce of juice from your engine without going Forced Induction. Includes shaving of head, use of high compression pistons, cams and lots more. This will require the engine to run on a higher octane fuel. All of the above mentioned will give you significant margins of BHP gains. They all are a stage above the regular intake/exhaust, port & polish mods. So given the chance what would you do to your engine?

| Turbo was my most preferred option. But i voted for an engine swap. Why? so i can get the best of both worlds. First the engine swap and then a turbo on it. (considering i'll still have the esteem and will swap the engine for a suzuki GTi engine). Otherwise an engine swap which already has a turbo setup is my option. | BHPian | NA built engine - Turbo/NOS are really not the way to go for small tight tracks such as *ahem* might be found in SCCA Solo competition. My idea of a nice street/track NA engine build is: cams with "serious street" type grind (typically below 280 degree duration) highest compression afforded by 93 octane pump gas for this cam 4-2-1 header with freeflow muffler IRTB's with a standalone ECU. This should give enough competition to the turbo engines on the said tight tracks. |

I voted for Turbo, obvoius reasons, nothing can make you feel so good like a Turbo does, heck if your car is slower then a NA, the turbo just is so much fun.
