Got myself a Green Cotton Wind for my Xing.

The low end torque sure increased, car's more peppy .
The car also maintains to carry lower speed in 4th gear without jerking.
Yet to check the top speed in 3rd gear.
It is not loud as K&N and hence not irritating. Its more kind of a tighter growl.

Default hi

please do not install aftermarket filters with metal air intake even if its fashionable and looks sexy .
the metal intake pipe gets really hot<@80-120>and reduce the charge density .
it will deliver lesser mass of air than intended .

BUSA - To the best of my knowledge SS also falls under the Metal category. I think he meant use rubber/plastic/pvc/fibre glass or any material that does not get hot easily.

I am planning to fit conical air filters in my Baleno (didnt get the keys yet :-) ). After reading the thread it seems I have only 3 options:
Green, KnN, Ractive. As far as I know I wont need a intake pipe in the Baleno. So my query to the forum is how much will it cost to fit one. Also is there nay particular specification or just any conical filter can go with the Baleno. My motive is to extract the maximum from the 1.6 engine as far as the air filter is concerned.

I have used K&N and Greens filter stock replacement filter in Wagon R & Baleno

I have to say the Green filters better because of thick rubber edges & cotton pores are smaller.

The K&N has thinner rubber edges and bigger pores. Also noticed trails of dusty air on the inner rubber sides after 5000kms driving inspection. That shows the filter dosen't seal well on the edges with the stock air-filter box.

Since a stock car dosen't require too much free flow, I use a thin layer of sponge as a pre-filter.

Wit that the car feels torquier, lesser hesitation to accelerate & suprisingly more silent than stock filter - intake noise has reduced !

For a stock engine to last long I would definitely prefer Greens filteration.

Default any answers?

does any one actually know what is the biggest particle size which can be filtered 100% by those SO CALLED FILTERS?
as the poerocity is so great even a needle can pass through ..
try applying thick oily layer insige the intake trumpet of stock filters and the replacements..
the dust the aftermarket filters pass through can be used to build a hoover dam!!

Wow, Turbosam, have you actually tried this out?!
If you could post one or two photos, it might save a lot of 'innocent' people from harming their car engines.

please bear with my ignorance if any thread/post has mentioned about the performance of stock filters already. the stock K&N that i got in the Maruti 800 (carburettor model) has left me puzzled about it. i see no marginal improvements too. the FE figure too is spot on, no change whatsoever.
seeking help from the K&N experts here. is a stock filter supposed to function like an OEM filter (but with the duracell kind of tag 'lasts 10 times longer.. hehe), or am i failing to 'feel' the change/difference in the car's response?

@Turbosam - Assuming you have tested different filters using the method you posted, would you mind posting up the values(for the Palio/Petra or any other car that you may have tested)?
