Default MM540 with engine change

these are the pics of the 87' MM540 4WD which we bought primarily for estate use.paid 42k for her including broker charges, renewed insurance etc.
the major work which was carried out on her was the engine change. we went in for a Simpson's S4 which was suggested by my garage guy. the engine is used by the mahindra maxi cabs(model FJ 460 93')its supposed to be a 3330 cc DI engine!! we paid 17k for it and got 5k for the old XDP.
we had to change the mounting positions of the engine little further towards the front.we had the diesel pump serviced,2 new pistons, new rings and seals.
the other big job was the tinkering and painting which costed me another 7.5k.
since its an estate vehicle we haven't made any other modifications.
we had the seats overhauled, changed the shock absorber dampers and we've kept her sprung high, hence there is a quite a bit of body roll, but then again we dont exactly use her for racing.
initially there was a crazy amount of tyre wobbling when i went on deep potholes but then we traced the problem to play in the steering gear.changed the steering rod.
other than that, we did relatively small jobs, changing parts like the brake shoes, new hoses all around, lots of new bearings, new oil filter-things like that.
since this was my first restoration i'm now in love with her, we plan to take out the fibre top next year(makes a fair bit of noise, and looks ugly)
the whole thing came up to 1.1 lacs, its funny how all the small things add up to the amount(no new tyres either)
one important thing was that we had to change the crown pinion ratio from the original 44/9 to a 47/11 because (44,47 i think)the simpsons just couldn't put her foot down with the original(we could only touch 40 kmph that time)so that was another thing.

no ,its the engine used by the mahindra mini vans. its a direct injection engine(and a much bigger cc)so no heating required.

Holy smokes!
The long stroke piston of that motor alone mesmerizes me with the thought about its raw torque. Arka had a plan of plonking the van engine and later backed out for reasons of weight distribution.
Heard it weighs a ton

Nice job. Did the engine go right in? Or did you make changes to the engine bay. I think the mount points are different too.

yup we've retained the 4WD. we had the crown-pinion ratio of both, the front and the rear differential changed to the 47/11 from the 44/9.
but the gearbox is still the same 4+1 ,4WD with HS and LS, so retaining the 4WD wasn't a problem.

the engine fitted directly onto the existing 540 4+1 gearbox, but yeah , we'd to change the mounting points few cms further towards the front.its much more heavier though.
