Default OHC VTEC Silencer

Hi guys,
On the way back from Pune to Bangalore I hit a pretty big pothole on the NH4 near Chitradurga (Awful awful 2-3km strech here... But anyway). My silencer has started rattling and makes an awful sound now. Honda are saying it will cost me 22k to replace it. I was wondering if anyone has tried a non-OEM silencer? Would love to go for a free flow but I dont know how feasible that is right now.

Thanks in advance

Go to Shabir near TV Tower (Opposite Fun-world) to fix your exhaust problem.

Based on the damage, Shabir will fix your existing exhaust itself or fabricate the damaged part himself. Or, if you want to go in for a FFE, you can talk to Raj Hingorani(ask Shabir for Raj's contact details). The header design, dimensions, lengths etc are provided by Raj and the FFE will be made by Shabir.

Either ways, your exhaust should get fixed will within 50% of the Honda quote.

The silencer can be reapired easily.
Else just go in for FFE.
My OHC silencer had gone for toss. It was full of Rust, Thanks to Lohithrao who offered me his old silencer( He has FFE by viper)

Hi Sameer,

i have an ohc1.3 & since the old silencer was damaged ,i got a non oe silencer assembly from delhi for just 3500 - yet to use it as it will be fitted in a day or two - the 1.3 & the vtec silencer should be almost identical except for tailend which is a steel one in vtec( i have got the same tailend) . so the best option for you is to get the existing one repaired & if that does not work out buy an aftermarket one. the best ones in galvanized sheet should come under 4000.

the oe is not too great either becoz i have seen a good number of people having to replace them . as far as ffe is concerned i am also interested but am sceptical about the increase in sound . it would cost you anywhere between 12 to 15 k along with modified headers & is expected to give a boost of 5-10% in power so u can go for it if you are comfotable with the sound.

Are you sure that the silence is damaged & not one of the mounting bushes?? Sometimes just having them damages can lead to a lot of noise & they are a very cheap & easy fix too!

Whoops thats pricey. 22k for a silencer is daylight robbery. Looks like cars and printers work on the same principle. Charge less for the product and rip customers on the consumables. Get a FFE dude. Wont regret it. The OEM is pathetic anyways...

Hi guys!
Thanks for the response.

Iraghava - The silencer is damaged. I had to get it welded from a local mechanic to reduce the sound that it was making.

S@~+#0$# - Thanks for the detailed reply. Will go there next weekend.

If the cost is comparable I might just go in for a FFE

Hello, I have a similar query and since my thread was deleted putting my query here.
Can anyone advice a store/garage in Pune who can help me with the OHC VTEC silencer. I would prefer stadard over FFE for the comfort level. Silencer is in bad shape. Totally rusted. pieces of the silencer have rusted and fallen of and totally missing. repair is not a option. Needs replacement.
What I am specifically looking for is whther someone in Pune would be able to provide a cheap reliable alternative.

There are a few places in Pune which you can evaluate
1. Khemchand near Hite bar in Mg road, I have been to him a few times to change my end can, he is good only in the welding department
2. Poona motors has got a garage in Marketyard, I recently got my OHC exhaust changed from there for Rs 6000 which included the end can, catalytic converter and a few pipes (I had some old pipes lying with me since I had a free flow earlier)
3. Sohail (International exhaust systems) on salunke vihar road

I got quote from shop for replacement which will cost me about 3.5k but guy is not able to arrange it and is giving me run around since 1 month. Do anyone know where i can get it in thane (mumbai).

I also need to get suspension work done. They are kind of become hard, any suggestion on that. Also my car clutch feel little hard any way to make it soft, shall i do clutch overhaul or something else. Please suggest.

Just spoke to hall mark honda guys in thane about suspension overhaul and they recommend following prices for new suspensions

1) Front suspensions (each side 5k) 10k + 1k labor = 11k
2) rear suspensions (each side 3.5k) 7k + 1k labor = 8k
3) front lower arm suspension (4.25k each) = 9.5k + 1k labor = 11.5k
4) clutch overhaul 10k without flywheel and with flywheel about 18k to 20k.

he also said, if i show them car they can give me exact estimate. what you guys think please suggest.

Hi Sameer,

I faced a similar issue with my 1.5 OHC. Honda gave me a quote of 27 k for the
B and C Pipe. Tried to fix it, but sadly it could not be welded as the rust had eaten
the core pipe and there was hardly any strength.

Went for an FFE from Raj. Costed me 11k for the end can too as i did not opt
for a half pipe. If you are bothered about the sound, you can get a muted one too.
You need to contact Shabbir/Raj for that.

Cheers.
