Default Tyre damaged in freak accident

Tyregurus!

Need help. Had a freak accident yesterday. The side of the car hit a rock and damaged a portion of my tire and alloys. Snap below. Please tell me if it is safe to go around with that damage or should i be using that only as the spare one!

Sanju my advice would be that you use this as the spare tyre. Why take the risk when you know what are the ill-effects of using sucha tyre.

Also cant make out from the angle of the picture, has the alloy been bent ?

Its deep, can see the steelbelt layer inside, use it as a spare ONLY, unless you are ok to replace it.

Better to replace the tire rather than use it as spare. I too had a similar accident and made the foolish mistake of getting a 'jugaad' tire repair job. My tire-wallah says it can be used as an emergency tire/spare for not more than 10 kms running. However, I am replacing the spare with a new tire. Better safe than sorry.

Alloy not bent. A piece of rubber came off and the alloy has dent. Thats pretty much it. But looks really bad.

As of now, no plans to replace. Will use as a spare tire as suggested by all. Was scratching my head for half an hour after this.

Cheers

Thatís good idea , No need to scratch your head really . At least your tire is useful for spare. Few days back one of my friendís car (new Verna CRDi ) got a rock spike in the middle of a good road , he donít have any choice except going for replacement. Not even a scratch to AlloyI think you can go for touch up for your black alloy. Good lock

Hi Sanju,

From the photograph, it sure seems that your tyre is damaged quite severely. Would recommend you get it changed. even though it is a tubeless tyre and this damage is on the sidewall you could land into serious trouble if the tyre bursts at highway speeds.

Cheers,

Alloys just need a brusg touch up and as you have rightly decided, this tyre can service as the spare.

You are lucky, i had a tear and had to replace the tyre, that too on day 5 or something :(

Then whole piece has come off. Change the tyre though you might be thinking of using it as a spare but think what if you have to drive over a longish period with no chances of repair in sight.

Change tyre. Alloys no issue if no bends.
