Unhappy is it legal or not.....??

hey guys since we are into modifying our cars/bikes it would be a great idea to know whether doing that particular mod or change is legal or not.

finally ending up doing it is upto the individual but atleast he knows if it right or wrong.this thread can also be used as a guideline to people planning to modify their car.the mods can vary from a simple hi-fi music system to a huge loud performance exhaust or from bright white lights to neons and strobes.but please do not post false or misleading data.

this can also be used incase your caught by cops who are out just to hassel you and give you a rough time.they sometimes catch you for a loud exhaust or a body kit or sometimes just because your car stands out from the resst so once you know whats right and wrong you can argue with them accordingly.

Hi Rev,

I know for a fact that loud exhausts, white lights, neons and strobes are illegal. I will not be able to comment on the other stuff though.

What kind of modification we are talking here? Surely not upgrading wheels/tyres, etc...

90% of car mods are illegal. Only those like plug wires, plugs, ignition systems, air filter etc are stated legal. Modification to the internals of an engine is illegal according to the RTO. As cars are registered under a certian power output. Swapping engines too is totally illegal. However this doesnt stop performance enthusiasts.

Cheers

Its not white lights. Its actually the wattage rating. You are not supposed to use about 55/60W headlamps. So 90/100 or 110/130 Watt headlamps are illegal.

I also thought that Xenons were standard on the Octavia RS, and the earlier Ford Mondeo. And some one in this post mentions them as legal?
What gives?

according to the law u are also not supposed to change the rims and tyre size and all. if u do so u have to let the rto know about this. that way u will never be able to do anything. stock cars suck they dont realize that. but enthus are not stopping for anything now are they.

hey haryan
when did this happen and what mods are we talking about there.so if having white light/xenons are illegal why are they supplied as OEM ON CARS LIKE SKODA , OLD MONDEO , and some of the mercs and accords..

changing stock rims to alloys isnt that much of a deal.many cars have them and the cops dont do much about that.but what i am talking about is basically mods that can be seen from the outside.for example a cop wont be able to distinguish between a normal zen an E zen or a B zen.so thats out of the picture but seeing a huge muffler or a whacky paint job hell definitly know that things have been changed so basically talking about those kind of mods.so are they allowed.is fitting a body kit and having a differnent paint job legal.

A paintjob thats different from the one as stated in ur RC counts as illegal. In delhi ive never seen anybody being harassed for modding their cars, infact i havent heard even a single case until now where anybody was stopped from having a loud exhaust or underbody neons even.

Most hi-performance jobs like turbos and hot cams will cause the car to fail emmisions test. That can make it illegal. Is there mandatory exhuast emission check in any state?
