OK sorry for taking so much time to update this thread, have been out of town and didn't get online for a long time.

Finally picked up a Baleno for 1.5L, spent about 30k to go, pick it up and get it to BLR. Still a good deal i guess as i doubt i would have gotten a Baleno for that price in BLR. And FOR NOW im planning to run the car without re registering it so it kinda works out.

Anyway, about the mods, i thought ill pick up the RD ECU first and the last time i spoke to the RD guys a week back or so they said they were coming out with a new/updated ECU so probably that will be going into the car next week. Update of rest of the mods later

Why do you need to register the car in Bangalore? You can just take it on a drive to Hyderabad and show the fuel bills there to B'lore cops.

Yes, exactly. Plus i've got a few dozen toll receipts all the way from Delhi to Bangalore so that will do the job for a few months.

@Cooldude,
Yes, i just got to HYD yesterday. Will meet up soon.

Car looks good.

Why does a stock car need a standalone?

Karthik congrats on the car!! She looks clean.

So are you planning on going FI or NA? I guess FI!!

Also, any intentions of participating in drag/track events or are you just going to use this car as a daily drive.

Just curious!!

Cheers
Shrey

My thoughts as well. The ECU would be needed at a later stage for noticeable gains.

Not really guys a stock car with a Stand alone also has performance gains.
Speaking for RD ecu they have shown a close to .8-1.0 sec gain in a stock car's 0-100 timing

Well, if one looks at it logically, a standalone is a mod undertaken at a considerably later stage to optimise a particular setup.

Reason is quite simple- cost.

In setups done abroad, tuners and DIY guys try every trick in the book before putting the cash down for a standalone. FPRs, FMUs, bigger injectors, piggybacks etc. etc.

This is simply because in most cases, the cost of the standalone will almost be equal to the amount spent in mechanical mods. (I'm talking about garage builds, not about some 500whp tuning-shop demo cars. Those have enough cash to splurge on a fancy standalone anyway)

Keeping the cost bit aside- a standalone is one of the few mods which is an extremely versatile piece of kit and will probably never need an upgrade in the course of the modded car's life- and in most cases can be re-used for another car with a different harness. The standalone can be fine-tuned for each and every mechanical mod one does on a car- from stock to I/H/E to cams and forced induction. Simply put, whatever condition a car is in, the standalone will most probably be able to optimise it to an extent- which varies depending on the mods. The leeway is small on a stock motor but increases as mods pile on.

A cost effective complete standalone like RD should ideally be the first mod on a car which is gonna be boosted later. It can always be retuned for more gains as one proceeds from bone stock to modded status. Do it once and for all, and you have one headache outta the way- and a massive one at that. Any tuner knows how critical it is to control fuelling and ignition in a boosted motor.

All in all, I think its a wise move to get the standalone. Simply put, its one of the few future-proof mods.

That's about right- on a Group N car the gains were in that region on the vbox.

Karthik thats a neat looking car for 1.5L very nice price and extremely good VFM.

Now you have a budget of 3.5L to work on the car. Amazing!

So who all drove down and how was the drive roads/ time taken etc?

Maybe its a one-off case, but an esteem here showed almost 3 sec gain in 0-100 when tested with a stop watch. We tested it on the L&T Bypass at 1'o clock in the afternoon. Car was completely stock down till the engine oil.
