There are armies around the world already using Gurkha or the PUCH G which is basically the same, Indian army was demoed this vehicle but found it too costly and gave the order to Mahindra MM550 DP instead, some palms too must have been greased well.

If it was OM611, then its not the 270Cdi, but the 200Cdi. 4 cyl common rail and makes around 105 hp and 270 Nm of torque and is used in Sprinters all around the world.

Why do you think its unreliable. This engine is a darling of German taxicab drivers for their E-classes. Half million miles no problemo.

M-Power,

Unlike their previous offering, namely OM 616/617, the reliability factor is simply not there, don't know how German taxi drivers or Sprint users are claiming high mileage when the reports of longevity are nowhere close to the OM616/617. Even BTL has reduced the load bearing rating of this engine as compared to the ancient normally aspirated OM 616. Compared to the old MB diesel engines which were heavily under-tuned for reliability, the new one is under too much stress, even the bottom end is lighter than the older engines. Having said that, I would still wager that out of all the current SUVs in the market offered by Indian manufacturers, the OM 611 engine Gurkha would be the best in terms of performance and life.

BTW: Thanks for the correction, the 2.7 is a 5 cylinder job, not a four.

The OM616 has a huge oil filter which is very difficult to relocate. This makes its retrofitment on other vehicles quite a task.

Looks like Gurkha is back on the menu, boys!

...::: Welcome to Force Motors : Products Section :::...

The Gurkha is now listed on the Force Motors site. The tiny pic seems to be a 2-door SWB model, Hard top, with a Snorkel! No engine specs, but I'm guessing it comes with the OM611, because a 2.6 litre TD is listed as an option.

The brochure link is for the Trax Gama.
