E46 M3 comes with the S54 engine..its derived from the M50 (from which the S50 is derived) but heavily modified, and not considered the same engine really. But yeah, all BMW engines completely change character once theyre wound up and they suddenly turn lunatic!

I had a look at HPF too before I bought my S/C and some of their kits cost as much as the car itself! If I may suggest, a supercharger is a good way to go. Active Autowerke and VF-Engineering offer some great S/C kits.

PM me if you need any help with mods/DIYs etc. Iv been working on my E46 M3 for 3 years now and Im always glad to help

Yeah I'm on m3forum too. Between e46fanatics.com and m3forum.net you'll find pretty much anything you need on our cars.

Are you permanently in USA or do you come back often?

Enjoy the M! Drive safe and have fun!!

Why I say HPF kits dont cost too much is when i am looking at the stuff they provide. When I checked last their HPF 750 kit was like $14k which is not too bad considering it gives you 750 HP!!!

Do keep us updated on your M3, I have always loved these and would love to buy a coupe, someday maybe.

Yeah I know it doesnt seem like much when you think of it compared to car prices in India, but in USA you can get an E46 M3 for under $20k.
Besides, the only kit they have for $14k is the stage 1, which makes 450 whp approx. on 91 octane pump fuel.
Their stage 3 makes 780 hp (at the crank) and costs $30k+

Active Autowerkes S/C kit is about $8.5k for stage 1 (410 whp)
and $11.5k for stage 2 (just under 500 whp)
Frees up money for brakes or suspension

In the end this is just the money aspect. There are other pros and cons and eventually its a personal choice!

Just did all the research before ordering an S/C kit and installing.
