The roots windtone horn in my Liva stopped working a few weels back and i was forced to use the stock horn of the Liva which is very meek. So,decided to go in for some durable and striking horn. Fitted the Hella Supertones yesterday & my god it's powerful! The sound is so striking that even bigger vehicles give way! The horns are massive in size when compared to the stock one.

And I guess they are banned now, according to the SC order. Why don't you replace them with the stock horns? Have you considered the fact that you might be using these monsters in residential areas as well?

I drive a Figo and everyone complains it has got a very weak horn. I have found them to be sufficient. And anyways, it's not that I would fly over people when I honk at them - You seem to be in Chennai which is far better than the crazy place I am in!

Please do give it a thought.

How much did you pay for the two horn + relay set? I guess it was a box pack.

Sounds decent. Fresh, compared to the OEM horns I've been listening to for almost 7 years now. Not too loud maybe. But I haven't listened to it from outside the car properly...

It has been almost a year n a half since I fitted Bosch Symphony on my Santro, and it has been working flawlessly.

Of late, I'm getting a little bored of the tone. Switching back to OEM horns didn't do any good as they're not working properly.

So I was contemplating replacing the OEM horn with Hella Redgrill. My queries are:

- Is it a good idea to have two sets of 'Power horns' simultaneously?
- If yes, do I need a separate relay?
- I'm assuming that the load on the battery won't be too much, as only one pair will be used at a time.

This is more popular as the Hella Red Grill.
How much did it cost and did you fit the relay.

Any specific reason why you want to keep both the horns.
The Red Grills should require a seperate relay and the relay is provided in the box. You'll require a seperate switch also to alternate between the two.

Just the fun factor! The Bosch Symphony is not shrill enough to shoo away the annoying cyclist/two wheeler, I've always felt. And I don't wanna give up the Symphony which is working so well. As I said, just contemplating...

It is indeed the hella red grill supertone horn set. produces 118db , its a monster!
These horns are really loud. People give way when u hold the honk for about 1 second!

The horn and wiring cost me 1600 bucks. I didn't put up a new relay as I had swapped the horns with my old roots Windtone horns that were running with a relay.

The one at a Skoda/VW ASC costs close to Rs. 3,000 or more, can't recall the exact figure and has the VW logo stamped.

Don't think a Mercedes will use a VW logo stamped horn. They both might sound same, but brands will be different.

IIRC, the brand which supplies horn to the Germans, is Claxon.

Second observation, as far as horns go, Hella, especially the windtone variety isn't as durable as Roots & can't be repaired. It is a fixed/sealed type. I believe this holds true for Minda trumpets as well. Minda sounds the best among this trio as far as prranp goes.

I don't think Stebel Nautilus is used by VW and Skoda India any more.
The present OEM supplier is most probably Roots India.

Did a Comparison video between my Liva's Stock horn and the Hella Red Grille Supertone horns. The difference is massive. Here's the Video!

I myself don't think Stebel supplies horns to the Germans and neither roots.

I mentioned the brand Claxon as someone from forums researched it & had put it up. IIRC, the said member was from Bangalore and had an i20.

I have seen the horn which comes with Skoda/VW and there is no branding. VW logo is stamped on it & that is it.

I've not seen the horns in VW / Skoda, but the site of Roots Industries India Limited claim to be the OEM supplier of electric horns for both VW and Skoda.

Just installed Minda trumphet horns in my i20 and it sounds great!!

Crisp and adequately loud. I personally find it better than roots and Hella but it is quite popular among taxi wallahs also.
