Ok, got the car back after paying Rs 75/- as service charge - that too for the changed oil filter.

Before-After verdict:

Before: Smooth, Very silent
After: Every letter of Smooth coated with greased lightning, Deathly silent - the Reva electric engine will have a complex once it (tries to) listen to my Swift's

In fact, I did 2 things for the 1st time on the drive back:

1. Actually rev the car past 5.5k rpm just to confirm to myself that there was an engine under the hood

2. Tried starting the car at a green signal thinking it was off - only to discover that the engine was already running.

Moral of story: Superior lubrication helps life with a grin pasted on your silly face.

If you like it already, just wait until you complete a 1000 kms on the synthetic lubes. Then its a master class.

Please read the earlier posts. We recommend a change anywhere between 7500 - 10000 kms.

Here is my saga of converting from Mineral oil to Synthetic oil...
My ford ikon has run 64,000 kms and always used mineral oil specified by Ford (10W30 Bharat/Mobil) this time i wanted to change to full syntetic (it had been more than 6 months since the last oil change and driven some 5000kms)and just about the same time i saw this thread and theMAGs post about Mobil 5W50. After getting directions from theMAG ( thanks to Vids for the detailed route) to get myself 4 liters of Mobil 5W50. Last Friday was the day i could leave early from office and went to JC road to buy Mobil 5W50. I bought a 4l can for 750/- per liter.
Next day went to cauvery ford to get the engine oil changed. why ford because i wanted to use Genuine ford accessories in this case the oil filter. I had the surprise of my life.. Ford policy specifies that they can change oil only during a car service and they refused to change oil with out a service appointment. I had to go up to the management level and i knew the service manager at Cauvery ford for a long time having bought my car and serviced my car at Cauvery ford for 6 years. ultimately they agreed to change oil but they refused to use the oil which i had brought. And it seems Ford also uses Mobil1 synthetic oil for customers who specifically ask for synthetic oil. I asked them to sell me the oil filter atleast so that i can get the oil change done out side - they refused to sell because the policy cannot allow them to sell any spares unless used for servicing the car. I was left with no choice but to change oil and oil filter at the ford since i was not sure of the after market oil fiters. So for the same oil (Mobil 5W50) I ended up paying Rs.75 more per liter and left me with a bad taste about ford dealerships. I am left with a 4l can of mobil1 5w50 in the trunk of my car. May be i will use it for the next oil change
Comming to performance after the oil change, i could feel the change as soon as i came out of the ford dealership. The car runs smoother and gear shifts are little more smooth. but it doesnt add up to the premium on Synthetic oils. I didnt flush my engine as i had doubts about some reviews and opinions that it may lead to leaks from un-cloggingof gaskets and seals in a high mileage car.

I can't understand the part about "Genuin Oil filter".
Most cars use Elofic or Delphi oil filters which you can get from any good auto spares shop, with hologram etc., on the box.
What brand does ford have?

I think it would be available in open market?
Atleast in the US it is.
That country has a law that forbids companies from exclusively selling parts from their dealerships only. So you can get genuine parts from anywhere, but sadly, thats not the case here, the law encourages cartelisation!

Thats very true.. we consumers are taken for a ride by these manufactures and there is no law to protect consumers unlike in US. and since there is no retailing..we end up paying more for the same produts

@shazi: goto metro ford and they will happily sell you the oil filter.

I had done this and went to my trusted ol esteem mech with a can of flushing oil and another of mobil, 30 mts and job was done.
