If that's true.. the race's are going to be REAL LONG due to the fact that the car's halfway will need to come in to REBOOT.. just like all good Microsoft OS's.

i think its true. i also read an article about bridgestone becoming the sole tyre supplier along with MS supplying ECU's from next year.

Yes it is indeed a true news. Along with Bridgestone as single tyre supplier.

Will the steering wheels come with a Cntrl+Alt+Del button ??? If not, their race is over. Imagine how one team can easly hack into other teams ECU wireless transmission frequency and screw it all up.

Drivers like Schumacher, Raikkonen and Alonso will be replaced by expert hackers from Europe and Asia. Whoever manages to hack into the system of each other wins the race.
Super Aguri and Midland will decide to install Linux and will be kicking everyone else's a**.
Wonder what kind of microprocessor they'll use in the ECU chips (Intel or AMD).

Who are Microsoft MES??

When hearing of the contract , Magneti Marelli were pretty much furious, considering the experence that they have in developing control system for various types of racing machines are were perplexed that such a deal would go microsoft's way - No expereince at all

But what does MES stand for????

Maclaren Electronic Systems...... Yup, you heard me right.
also an expert in ECU's & control systems for the cars
FYI, they operate in the technology centre in woking, but
are supposed to be a completely seperate entity for maclaren racing
and under the Maclaren group umbrella

So its not really Microsoft, its maclaren.

wonder how the teams will react to the news... There's always the spectre
of conflict of interest

McLaren Electronic Systems, an independent developer within McLaren's group of companies, is behind the successful bid with Microsoft to supply ECUs in Formula One from 2008, autosport.com can reveal.


Although the exact identity of the 'Microsoft MES' company that was announced by the FIA yesterday was unclear, sources have confirmed that the firm involved with Microsoft is McLaren Electronic Systems.

The company has been an independent developer of systems for more than 15 years, and supplies all the current competitors in F1 with different products.

Although MES shares its name with McLaren, and operates from the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, there are no direct links between it and the Formula One team.

MES's company statement claims: "McLaren Electronic Systems is an independent company of the McLaren Group of Companies. It is a leading exponent of the group's technical prowess and design philosophy.

"Its goal is to provide the automotive electronics customer with a complete range of products that are reliable, yet at the very limits of technology.
