Default R.I.P: Sir Jack Brabham

One of the all-time Formula 1/motorsports legends - (Sir) Jack Brabham, has passed away.

More here

Three-time F1 champion, whose contemporaries included the greats- Stirling Moss, Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart, Brabham was also famous for racing in F1 in a car he developed himself, and was named after him.

Sir Jack Brabham passed on in his Australia home, succumbing to a long fight with liver disease. Rest in peace.

A true racing legend. He was one of a kind considering the era of his feats.

He will be truly missed at the Australian GP paddock every year.

Fact: The winners trophy of the Melbourne GP is a replica of Jack Brabhams Steering wheel from the 1960's.

I really was shocked, when I heard of his death....Just when I was attending a lecture pertinent to astrophysics. Such a great person...!

Has anyone won a world championship, by actually pushing a car across a car across the finish line?

Has anyone actually had an F1 career of 15 years?

His battle with a very determined Jochen Rindt, at the 1970 Monaco GP, was epic!

He was the person, who kept Colin Chapman & the legendary Team Lotus, guessing throughout the Sixties.

His 1966 victory was nothing short of incredible! And in 1967! In spite of Team Lotus having the new Ford-Cosworth DFV V8, he still managed to bring his team on the pole position, despite running his cars on the Repco V8, which, in turn was based on a 1950s Oldsmobile production V8.

In 1967, Denny Hulme was the first, racing for Brabham, and Jack himself second. Jim Clark third, and Graham Hill a distant seventh.

Who else, could keep the lethal combination of Colin Chapman + Jim Clark + Graham Hill i.e Team Lotus at bay?

Who won an F1 title on a car of his own make?

R.I.P Black Jack! Your partnership with Ron Tauranac was memorable, to say the least.

After all, keeping Colin Chapman guessing, is a HUGE thing!

Not really related to Jack Brabham, but would Bernie be where he is today if he had not bought Brabham? So F1 as we know it today is because of Jack!

Just saw this thread.

I'm friends with his grandson. Even after such rich history it's amazing to see how down to earth and hard working the whole family is. Many of us wish to see Sam in Formula 1 one day to bring his grandfather's name back.

Truly a great legend. RIP Sir Jack.
