Forget F1, Noida to get it's first street race in December 2007! - Team-BHP

Good news for all you guys up North who are starved for circuit racing. Plans have just been finalised to hold a street race in Noida in December this year.

It's a fun event, meant to build up hype for the F1 plans. Group N Saloon cars upto 2000cc will take part. The grids should be good, as we should expect participation from the MRF Touring car drivers as well.

The article mentions that they are looking at a NASCAR type event. But in the last part it is mentioned that each lap is 14 km

. And a total of 15 laps making a total distance of 210 km. To have a 14 km lap, some major roads will be closed down and to top it all crowd control will be a big issue. Add public inconvenience to it and you are looking at a protest which will kill the event even before first series of barriers are put up.

Instead they should try something more sensible like having a ~3 km track and doing a max of 15 laps. This won't involve cars having to pit etc. and major public inconvenience. But then, it is a newspaper that is breaking the news and not some official who is directly involved in the project. So it is likely that they might have published some "unofficial" facts even though they might be nowhere close to what the sponsers/management intend to do.

As you yourself have mentioned, don't read too much into the details from that article. We all know how the newspapers report things. However, there is a street race happening, and no, surely not NASCAR! lol

Anyways, official press conference is being held in Delhi Tomorrow, so all details will be out soon.

And someone please tell the cops this is a legal event.
Last we want is some cops and media brand this as illegal racing on streets.

Yeah right. Last thing we need is race cars hurtling down Noida's road over a 14 km lap. And running over some over-enthusiastic spectators in this process.

On a serious note, I don't take any part of what newspapers say about anything related to the automotive world. So just wait for some official word to come out and then the picture will be much clearer.

street race is very much possible, like melbourne and nurburgring. but dont know to what extend it will be succesful though

Sounds like Dr. Mallya is trying to ascertain and demonstrate the market potential of F1, and this is a more cost effective trial. Nevertheless, hope it actually happens.

This is not the 1950s.The races have stringent safety standards.

Woah !! this is a great news for motorsports up north. Greater Noida is the perfect place to hold such events. If this is going to take place in about a month i think the work should have started by now.

Hope this actually takes place.

WELL ... this really does seem like good news !! Time for the hotshot street racers of Delhi to come out and strut their stuff .... Its definitely gonna be fun to watch .

I dont believe much of the details such as 14km long etc. But it is great news!!! However, since most right roads in noida are parallel and intersect at 90 degree angles, it'd be hard to create an interesting layout IMO.
