..this is done on the sly without direct comments in the media

it turns out to be a jolly mess.. and t he contracts recognition rightly rule ion favour of BAR
he then secures a williams deal for 2006 & beyond
..subject to a performance clause that BAR hve little chance of making

he now knows bmw & williams have separated for sure..
and inspite of having an airtight contract with williams for 2006.. wants to stay at BAR

he openly says this in the press and says 'he will fight it through'
offering frank williams $3.5 million to buy out his contract

what does he think a signed contract is ? no more than a joke ?
think formula 1 should be ashamed of having a driver like him is their ranks.. deserter !

Maybe he's doing this for his own good. He wants a team that can give him results. By changing teams, he's being aggressive. Williams won't have BMW next year, so whats the guarantee of their success next year? Ferrari are already considering him.

anyone in that postion would do the same. We all know he is a good driver and given the right machine he can be successful. He had signed a contract with Williams when they were going strong and BAR was not doing well. Now the situation is opposite.

Would you knowingly ruin your career??? Everyone is here to be successful and hence I feel he's taking the right decesion.

However, I doubt if it would be a smoothly done, I'm sure all the 3 parties involved will be throwing allegations at each other in the coming weeks....

Yes but he also openly criticised the fact that Ferrari aren't doing well so whats the point of moving there which IMO is one of the most arrogant and dumbest quotes a person in Jensen Buttons place can state.

This shows the difference between a normal talented driver and a great driver.MS went to Ferrari in 1996 when ferrari were down and under that too when he was a world champion.

a man should keep his word no matter what,that is something British heritage should have taught Button.Recently i have lost all respect for this man called Jenson Button.

Its just not good on Button's part, Button has already appealed to Frank Williams to release him from his contract, but Williams rejected it. So BAR may have to let their third driver Anthony Davidson go to williams, who Williams have had their eye on for some time. Infact, Williams wanted to sign Davidson for 2005, but this was turned down by BAR, who didn't want to lose both of their British stars to Williams. Iam sure with this kind of attiude he will never become a world champion and I have lost even the little bit of respect I had for that man.

Jenson Button has issued a strongly worded rebuttal of allegations that he has behaved improperly in his dealings with Sir Frank Williams.

The Briton released a statement on Monday intended to clarify the sequence of events that has led to the current stalemate over his contractual position for 2006.

The statement began by making it clear that Button told Williams in person that he did not want to drive for him next season.

It read: “Jenson has decided to release this statement as various allegations have been appearing in the media over the past few days casting doubts on his honesty and integrity.”

“Jenson is particularly upset at suggestions that he did not accord Sir Frank Williams the respect due to him by not speaking to him face to face.

“The following factual statements are made to set the record straight: A meeting took place in the Conference Room at Williams' Grove Headquarters at 12 o'clock on Tuesday 12 July 2005.

“This meeting was attended by Jenson personally, together with his Manager, Richard Goddard.

“On the Williams side the meeting was attended by Sir Frank Williams, together with Patrick Head, as well as the Williams chief executive officer Chris Chapple, the Williams technical director Sam Michael, and the Williams in-house lawyer John Healey.

“The meeting lasted about one hour. During the course of the meeting Sir Frank Williams asked Jenson a specific question, ‘From what you are saying it sounds like you don't want to be here next season’.

“To this Jenson replied ‘No, I don't’.

“There is no question of there being any lack of clarity or misunderstanding on this point.”

Button also disputed Williams’ claim that he has changed his mind about where he wants to drive in the space of seven months.

The statement continued: “It has been suggested by Sir Frank Williams that a contract between Jenson and Williams (and there remain outstanding questions as to its validity) was signed seven months ago, which would be in January of this year.

“This is incorrect. There are two documents which are relevant, one dated August 2004, and one dated September 2004.”

Finally, Button claimed he was paid by Williams from 2001-2004 not to enforce a contract entitling him to drive for the Grove-based team.

“Quotes have also been attributed in the media to Sir Frank Williams to say that Williams paid a substantial amount in option money on Jenson in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.

“Again, to set the record straight, the facts are as follows: Payments made were not payments made by Williams to retain an option over Jenson's services.

“In fact the payments were quite the opposite. They were payments made by Williams to Jenson in exchange for Jenson agreeing not to enforce a contract which he had entitling him to drive for Williams.”
