Oh you did for Bangalore? I received a message this morning with details of the Mumbai venue. Nothing about Bangalore. I am also planning to drive down, however my Esteem (aka Dhanno) would be no match to your flying Baleno. I plan to drive on Saturday and make a nice weekend trip out of it.

Damn I didn't see this earlier. Since unregistered volunteers are still being accepted, I would like to go too and if possible hitch a ride with either of you if its available.

Please let me know.

Cheers

I'll be finalizing my plan by tomorrow. Will let you know. It'll be a 'same day back' kind of trip though

Initially i was keen on this, but then realized i would rather watch the race in comfort of some resto-pub. Out of curiosity, does one get paid for this work?

Cheers

Nope! Its just volunteer work. But I guess, the V8 engines roaring past should compensate that

*UPDATE*

All of you who had applied for the Marshal post from Mumbai : There is an orientation & Q&A session with the organisers at Mayfair (Worli) tomorrow. Two sessions, one at 1100 hours...and the second at 1500 hours. You MUST drop by.

Even those who had missed the earlier round of applications, if you are keen on marshalling, drop by and meet with Farhan at the venue. He'll check if you can still be accommodated.

Just back from the Marshall Induction at Worli Mayfair banquet hall.

In retrospect I should have done a poll to see how many were from TeamBHP but it slipped my mind. Met Farhan and Ejji who were very enthusiastic and down to earth. I went there expecting a lot of "Telling" and instead we had a very fair and 2-way discussion.

If you were there...I was the guy in black on the front right side of the group asking a lot of questions and generally being loud!

GTO were you there as well? I didn't see you around but there was quite a crowd there by the time the proceedings got underway.

Key Points:

1. The organizers will provide accomodation for ALL marshalls at the Marshall Village about 3Km from the race-track with shuttle service.
2. All solid and liquid refreshments will be provided...essentially we will be taken care of COMPLETELY.
3. All gear will be provided as required by one's role. This gear has to be returned to the organizers at the end of the event.
4. So many interesting roles for marshalls to play...it really is quite exciting!
5. I expected a hostile environment because essentially we will be competing with each other for a slot but instead the camaraderie was fantastic. I can easily see how a lot of new friends will be made through this process of hosting an Indian F1 GP!!
6. Farhan and Ejji were awesome hosts...funny as well. The presentation was light and gave us just enough information to take a reasonably educated decision on which role we would like to fulfill. Needless to say I opted to man the recovery vehicles given my experience with 4x4 vehicles and recovery techniques.

I expected a BULK of the people to opt for track-marshall role but it was interesting to see how everyone had different preferences and their own reasons for it. Some were inquiring about being part of the hospitality team given their experience in hotel lobby management. Others from a "logistics" background were inquiring about handling the incoming shipments and team motorhomes etc.

All in all it was good fun to the organizers and the hosts for this induction event!

Just show up...they will accept your details but you have to later go on IMMC website and register. Disregard the error message that you will get in return (about the cutoff date etc.). This is as per instructions from Ejji who was one of the presenters.
