reed valves are valves that flow fuel to your cylinders.
they operate on the principal of pressure in the cylinder and the charge sucks the fuel in thru them.
4strokes do not have valves, they have a camshaft that opens the ports at fixed durations.
here this might help

this is a basic reed valve.

and this is a four stroke valve

hope its of any help.

tavish.

an expansion chamber is not also called a 'stinger' the singer is that portion of the expansion chamber between the muffler and the end conical section.. it is a short straight section of pipe.check out this link for more info

Wow that was an awesome website dude!

To summarize:

1. 4stroke engines use only free flow exhaust.... a plain pipe would work like any other thing u put for this baby's exhaust....... doesnt effect performance... just needs to put the spent exhaust gases out.....

2. 2stroke engines use the exhaust gases to their advantage, with the sound waves released during the combustion stroke, and the relevant energy released tuned according to the exhaust kit ( header, convergent, belly, divergent and stinger sections) to its advantage.

Thankz Janeckozzy , Totally new knowledge...Coool....

But hey, Im no physics student, and so is my mechanic.
Can you tell me how they get to tune a header, convergent, belly, divergent and stinger sections of the exhaust system. Is it by trial and error method?

Also, which is the best rpm range you would like the chambers to kick in?
