Haven't had my attention drawn to such a problem so I guess it may not be so on the 500. But will take note of this specifically and let you know when I ride it next

I agree to your term of 'Poorly maintained commuter bikes'
But then again, if all cycles are kept IMMACULATE, no body would notice our hard efforts!

@DKG Have you found any significant difference between the fuel injected and the carbureted version, in terms of drivability, refinement etc.

The rich experience that the Harley allows is best enjoyed on open roads where you can modulate the throttle to enjoy its music the most. I didn't want to dilute the experience by taking it into places that don't allow it to be ridden freely.

This is where the 500 comes in

I did see it at an auto expo here in Hyderabad. Personally I didn't like it KPS. I like the traditional chrome and black look. Infact they have released another version with chrome fenders (in part). Initially it seemed interesting but eventually I preferred the standard black 500

I haven't ridden a carbureted 500. I did a 350 and found it very rough. The 500 is very refined and smooth and I'm sure the fuel injection has much to do with this.

Hi Deepak,

I saw this thread just now. You have very good knack to come up with catchy titles.

The bike looks great

You know waht, my better half always maintains that the best way to get me to do chores around the house is - not to interfere with my bike or car time.

I hate to admit that its true in a way because I sub conciously feel a bit guilty of having spend time away from the family that I end up doing double time doing up all pending chores.

Likewise may be you are also looking for the excuses of errands to ride the new bike

Enjoy and Drive/Ride Safe

Ram

Post Re: Running errands has never been this much fun !!

Hi DKG,

CONGRATS on owning the wheels of pride (MADE LIKE A GUN GOES LIKE A BULLET )

I too am a fan of RE. willing to own one in future when by moolah gets ready for it.

presently i use unicorn for my daily commute, and i get back pain sometimes riding in the busy streets of blore for more kms than the usual 10-20 kms.

I have a small doubt regarding RE Classic series, though this query wont matter my decision on owning RE in future (as am sure to go for it ).

As RE bikes have wonderful ride feeling, hope this is not a stupid question, one thing in my mind is - on riding RE in city limits will there be chances of back pain similiar to what i face in unicorn.

Please let me know on that context.

Regards,
Top gear

Spot on, if a bullet does not leak oil then there is something wrong with it (atleast in the case of the cast iron bulls). The day my 500 does not leave it's mark, i know for sure that the oil level is less and needs to be topped up

Hi DKG,
Your bike looks amazing! I am a huge fan of the RE's and the growl of their engines
May purchase one next year too, but just for weekends and leisure.

By the way, by any chance do you happen to know whether the Military Green color is available in the Indian market? I really love that color but I read somewhere that since it is the official color of the armed forces, RE isn't allowed to sell these in India.

Did you get rid of the Saree guard? And, RE offers a new up-swept silencer for some extra 3-4k. It looks really good. Planning on getting one?

Do keep posting a lot of pictures!

Been using it several times in a week so I guess I have way too many errands to run

You should consult a doctor about this as they are best qualified to figure out if riding motorcycles is good for you or does damage.

RE have launched a 500 in matt sand colour. Do they sell one in green elsewhere? I am not aware of the possibility of ordering one in that colour.

If I can get a frame without the saree grill then yes would love to get rid of it.

Will try out the upswept silencer once I do about 1500 kms.

DKG
Attached is a link showing the Military Green Royal Enfield that is sold in the U.S.

Please notice the comment in the links text about selling these in India.
It seems to be against the law because of the military green paint which makes me wonder what the Indian Government would say about a RE with a full U.S. military camouflage paint job of irregular patterns of dark green/light sand/brown?
Such a paint job is not available from the factory but Americans can get quite creative with a few cans of non gloss (flat) spray paint.

This Military green Royal Enfield is quite popular with people in the U.S. who want a motorcycle that looks like it might have been used in WW II.
They seem to be willing to overlook the fact that although Royal Enfields were used during that war they would have had the girder type of front forks.

Also, in the picture the wheel rims are painted green. This is no longer an option on the new Military models sold over here. They now come with the standard chrome rims (which, in my opinion look very out of place).

But why do you need a Saree Guard when you have a single-seater? I cannot register the need other then make it look like a 'commuter motorcycle'.

KKV,

Perhaps he needs it as a frame for a side saddle bag or Paneer bag "to run his errands"

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe
