Default Re: Royal Enfield TBTS 500 unveiled EDIT Now Launched

As a owner of CL500 chrome,i got the opportunity to take the TB500 for a longish test ride on the highway.

1)It is comfortable,in fact,i loved its ride comfort, but perhaps, the riding posture is more suited for riding in a straight line, throw in a set of twisties, and it might be a handful.

2)As fast as CL5 if not faster or slower.

3)Vibes with stock exhaust are pretty well supressed at 3 digit speeds.

4)Does 100 in 5th at 3500 RPM,and can hapilly stay at that speed all day long,or probably even 10km\hr more.

5)Rear Disc Brake,is as good or bad as Drum on my CL5.

6)Console with Hazard light is a nice touch, glows blue even during the day.It was saying something as AVG(Average),i think it was speed(not sure).

7)RVMs do not vibrate like in CL5.

8)At just 4K over CL500 Chrome,it is priced pretty well IMHO.

9)Matt Black shade is good(a la Desert Storm).

At one point of time,i even thought if i should trade in My CL5 Chrome for this.

But But But,my joy was shortlived, towards the end of the ride, the gears simply failed to engage, and i had to limp back to the showroom in 3rd gear

RE will never change

RE might say whatever about product placement, but a large number of tourers who would have been RE loyalists today are taking more than a casual look at alternatives like the CBR250 and KTM's. These could be RE customers if only the company had ironed out these issues.

The other criteria is what kind of issues the new TB500 is going to show: the much hyped Classic 500 has had a pathetic record in service so far, though it hasnt been as bad as the AVL did on entry. But its been years since the Classic 500 made its debut and even now you keep hearing of "common problems".

Hoping the TB500 has a smoother ride, pun intended.

That can happen to any RE. Akshay, get this man. I have never been a fan of RE, but if I had to buy one someday, it shall be this. It looks the part and somehow, with too many Classics on the road, the appeal has started to wane down a lot.

The 3rd quarter nails it for me. Looks beautiful.

OT: You riding it to your commute to office?

Took a test ride of the TB 500, floored by the power. Handles well (esp considering i never rode the TB previously). Heart debates vs the Head.. Heart wins. Booked with a Jan end delivery expectation.

Well they actually did. Now the only difference between the TBTS 350 & 500 are the engines.

Yes I know Sam, but you are referring to my post which was posted in Jan 2012. That time there were no plans for TBTS 350 upgrade. There was only a news about RE launching TB in 500 cc engine and in a new avtar.

Absolutely bro.. Just asserting the fact that there were no announcements for the new avatar of TBTS 350. I personally preferred the higher pillion backrest. It was a bit of a surprise to see the both versions look the same at the showroom (and a price hike for the 350). No offense meant

Eagerly awaiting test ride report on tbhp of 500 and 350. All current reviews from 'great' magazines sound almost the same with no micro-details

Last week when I had taken my CL 350 to the showroom for some battery problems, I had the opportunity to check out the new Thunderbirds. I have never liked Thunderbirds in the past because to me its a bike with a very confusing identity with its tall stance but a comparatively short wheelbase, long handlebars, and an angled fuel tank to impart cruiser like looks to what is quintessentially a classic british single cylinder bike. With the new Thunderbird, I don't have this problem anymore because it appears to be a very modern motorcycle. It is neither an adapted bullet anymore, nor does it try to exhibit any bulletness through the way it sounds, feels or rides, while still retaining the charm of a Royal Enfield.

Any idea when the "deliveries" are going to start for TBTS 350 and 500? I searched in multiple forums, did not get any clear answer! Some say, by Diwali, some say it might being in December or Jan next year!! Any idea guys?

Deliveries are expected around the end of January 2013 in Mumbai. Currently the showrooms are giving an estimate of 3 months waiting time for the 500 and around 7-8 months for 350. (Not sure but i feel they may be saying this just to make you impulsive towards booking the 500)

7-8 Months for a 350 is probably because they have clear the backlogs of those who had booked earlier version. They will get the "New" TBTS and then the new bookings! But still, Jan-2013 is loooong wait!

All the 500 CC engines are fuel injected. Which were found in all Classics, including desert storm and Chrome, the same engine shall now be seen in Thunderbird 500 CC .
