This is a fantastic product from kawasaki. As a starter bike its perfect and with room for some experienced riders to have some fun. Not discounting it looks like the baby 10r. Its also very different in character than the old 250 cc motor. With the increased stroke the motor starts making adequate power at about 3000 rpm but things start getting better post 5000 rpm with the real excitement lying between the 8000 - 12000 rpm. Though the basic architecture is the same but with EFI and 32mm TB you ll be hard-pressed to believe its an all new motor. I rode one overseas some time back and liked the overall character of the bike. Hope it does well in the Indian context.

As i had booked my bike with Chandigarh Probiking, i spoke to them earlier today.

Apparently they were totally clueless about the pricing till afernoon today. Also they do not have any 300 with them, expecting them by month end only, following which they would need to get RTO clearence which takes apparently 1 week. Only then can they start delivering the bikes.

As i am 2nd on their list it seems ages before i can lay my hands on this beauty.

You're thinking from an Indian perspective. In the west the baby ninja was considered to be a very fuel-efficient bike. Not only used by beginners, but by people wanting to save money on their commute. They feel the same about the Classic 500!

Comparing the 300 and 650 is normal (on the pricing front) but these are 2 very different segments.
Quality is good to have but the tech bits are missing. For 3.5L, still no USD front forks (which the KTM offers) and still a steel frame IIRC?

True. Wish it had the specs to match the price.

I would love to own one someday. But if the prices keep going northwards with every iteration, my dreams will take sometime to be fulfilled.

Well, it has got a slipper clutch which I believe is a first for a bike in this category\price-point.

Bajaj is asking too much for the 300.

IMHO that at 3.87L (Ex-Showroom) Delhi, the Hyosung GT 650 N makes a strong case for itself, looking at the specifications and VFM aspect of things when someone is going for the 300.

For an on-road difference of ~ 50K you get 30+ horses more and then there is additional torque on the offer as well.

If you see ninja is a CKD so the cost escalation is more a doing of the taxes imposed by the government rather than inflation imposed by the company. Even the CBR 250 would have been almost 1L more than the present market value had it not been manufactured here in India. Hopefully in the future when other firms set up manufacturing units here in India things might get cheaper. As of now I guess in this segment 300 is giving enough bang for the money.

on paper, i agree.
but choosing Hyosung, will one get equivalent quality in terms of product and service ? if yes, then... and only then one should consider Hyosung. its no use spending 4Lacs on something that's not reliable or something of which service and after sales is susceptible to doubt. I'd rather go with something less and be satisfied with it rather than spend, in the name of "why not this since it offers more", on something that's doubtful.

Bajaj should seriously consider launching something like the Discover 100 in the USofA. Would love to see how people react to its mileage figures

Hyosung isn't that bad. If its that bad why would it show up in the 250's competition tests?

I am sure that Hyosung is not bad but you see its like going in for a Suzuki when you can pick up a BMW ( prices not being a consideration)

Sameer, being a CKD model, the quality of parts is on the higher side which is a good thing. But if you compare the price with Ninja 650, that looks more VFM than Ninja 300. If they can price the 650 competitively, then why not the 300? Anyways, let us wait for the sales numbers to see if the pricing is good or bad.

Congrats on your bike! Lucky you
